When you were young do you remember having a family night where everyone set down together and played board games? There were many different types of games to choose from such as Guess Who, Sorry and Monopoly to name a few. It was a great way for families to spend good quality time together getting to know one another better. Now we live in an age where computers are found in almost every home and with access to the Internet, you literally have the world at your fingertips.

There are tons of online computer games that are very alluring with all the amazing graphics and exciting adventures they offer. They are truly hard to resist. Considering the competition that board games now have, you have to ask the question, does anyone play traditional family games anymore? Have they become obsolete? If you've spent time looking around at the products designed for kids, you will notice that there are plenty of board games still being made today. It's obvious that these games are selling good or the manufactures would stop making them. However, just because they are being purchased, doesn't mean the games are actually being played.

Many parents have admitted to having a variety of board games set aside for game night, but their busy lifestyle prevents them from pulling them down from the top of the closet. People buy these games with good intentions and truly do plan on playing board games with their kids. Many times they are given as gifts for birthdays and so forth. However, even though these games are found in most all homes, it can be difficult to find the time to actually play them. There is always so much to do and never enough time to take care of everything. It's simply a fact of life.

Despite this fact, all parents should consider how playing the traditional board games as a kid affected them. Are they some of the happiest memories you have as a child? If so, then consider what your own children are missing out on. There will never be enough time during the day, the week or the month to do everything that needs to be done. So, why not set aside a couple of hours a week to play games with your children anyway. This is a lesson that many parents don't learn until it's too late and their children are grown. Then they realize they missed their one and only chance to spend this type of quality time with their kids.

Don't let this happen to you. Pick a certain night of the week and plan to spend family time with your kids playing some of the traditional family games you played as a child. You are sure to have a great time and it will mean so much to your children. Who knows, you may even find that you feel better and can accomplish more when you do get back to taking care of business.
