Does Associated Content Really Pay Its Writers?
Associated Content, (also known as The People's Media Company) publishes articles, along with video and audio content, on a wide range of subjects. Similar to Helium, Associated Content allows you to submit your own original content. They publish a variety of subject matter, from local news items to creative writing pieces, giving you the freedom to write about what interests you.
Unlike Helium, however, Associated Content offers some distinct options for publication. The first option is to submit your article as exclusive, meaning that it has not been, nor will it be published anywhere else. Submitting content as exclusive allows you to recieve higher upfront and performance payments. The down side of this, however, is that you cannot republish the article. Associated Content also allows you to submit content that is non exclusive, giving you the freedome to publish the same material on other sites.
For both exclusive and non exclusive articles, you can either submit the content to the publisher, requesting it be reviewed for upfront payment, or publish it dircetly to the site yourself. If you publish the content yourself you will be accepting performance payments only. The advantages of publishing yourself are that you can generally get your material online quickly, rather than having the extended waiting time for editorial approval. If you decide to submit a request for upfront payment, on the other hand, it can sometimes take upto 2 weeks to hear back from the Editorial staff regarding acceptance. If your content is approved for upfront payment, you will be paid an initial amount ranging from about $2.00 to $10.00, for each piece of content selected to be published. Recieving an upfront payment for an article, or other piece of content, does not mean that you will not recieve performance payments as well. It does mean that you will recieve a lower rate of pay for your content views. The rate you recieve for each article published will vary greatly, depending on whether your content was exclusive, non-exclusive, performance only, etc... It will also depend somewhat on the level of "Clout" you have as a writer on the site.
Upfront payments for articles published on Associated Content are usually recieved within a day or two of notification that the content was approved for payment. Additionally, I recieve a regular deposit into my PayPal account, from Associated Content, for Performance Payments. Unlike Helium, there is no limit on how much you need to have accumulated in your account to recieve a payment. Even if you are only owed $0.65 you should recieve it regularly each month. Also, unlike Helium, there is not a need to request that you recieve a payment, as preset payments go out to everyone with material on the site at the same time each month.
As with Helium, I have always been paid by Associated Content, even back when I was just starting out, and was only owed a few pennies and a nickel. The largest upfront payment I have ever recieved was just over $9.00, while the smallest was just over $2.00. If you are offered an upfront payment that you feel is unfair, or it is an offer that you do not wish to accept after you recieve it, you are given the choice to accept or decline the given price.
As someone who is constantly looking for new ways to earn an income online through writing, I have come to appreciate Associated Content, for several reasons. Depending on the type of material I am publishing, I like having the option to retain my right to republish articles elsewhere. On the other hand, if I am writing an exclusive piece for the site, I also know that I can be paid at a higher rate, and recieve better performance payments, by doing so. Whether building a portfolio, or building a monthly residual income from my writing, I have found Associated Content to be one site that has helped me in my career as a freelancer.

Post a CommentThanks to both writers for the comments. I post some of my non exclusive content on several sites. Doing so helps make sure the material is widely read, and it also generates more residual income.
FYI - AC dropped, "The People's Media Company," months ago. There were too many issues with it. You might find a few things here and there on AC that still say that, but they will be changed when found.
