Does Barry Bonds Deserve to Be Given Pitches to Hit to Help Him Reach the Home Run Record

Is that What Baseball Really Needs, Another Controversy?

Barry Bonds is an amazing baseball player whom is approaching the record for the most home runs hit all time. Many people believe that he does not deserve to even have a chance to reach this record because of the whole steroid controversy following him. This article however is not about steroids, but I will make one quick point. Hitting a 95 mph fastball may be one of the hardest things to do in all sports. There are no steroids out there that are going to make any human hit the baseball. The only people that can hit it are the professionals, this obviously being the reason they are professionals.

Just the other day I heard a comment about how pitchers should give Barry Bonds pitches to hit once he starts getting within one or two of the record. Let me just start by saying that that is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard. People complain about steroids, yet people make comments like that. Activists against steroids right now are probably the ones making a comment like this. They also claim that Barry should have an asterisk next to his name because of the steroid controversy. If any pitcher would give up a pitch like that, then they are the ones who deserve the asterisk. Everyone should know for all of history that this certain pitcher was the one who tarnished maybe not a record but the credibility of maybe the record setting homerun. Baseball complains about how steroids are hurting their image, but what would something like that do for their image.

Now besides the fact that this is an absolutely ridiculous topic, what pitcher would want to give up that home run or any home run for that matter? I would think any pitcher that gave up that home run would have mixed reactions. First of all I am sure any pitcher would be happy for Barry Bonds, but how would they exactly feel about themselves? It might be nice to know that you were a part of history, but the daunting fact is that you will always be known as the pitcher that gave up the record setting home run. Some people may claim that they would enjoy that honor, but what pitcher wants to be known because he messed up, and threw a bad pitch. I'm pretty sure there isn't one out there.

Barry Bonds is one of the greatest athletes to ever grace the game of baseball. He may be caught up in a never ending ring called the steroid controversy, but that still cannot overshadow the record he is on pace to break in only a few more games. Let me make a couple things clear for all the people that don't believe Barry Bonds is deserving of this award. First of all he has never tested positive for any type of steroids. Second of all how does any steroid give you the ability to hit a baseball? If you give any normal non baseball player steroids I guarantee they would not be able to hit a major league pitch and mean to hit it.
