Does Barry Bonds Deserve Your Support?

With the Steroid Controversy and Everything Following Barry Bonds Does He Still Deserve Recognition for Everything He Has Done

Scary Good
There's no denying that Barry Bonds is a house hold name. Everyone knows the name and a little bit about him. Maybe they just know that he plays sports, or maybe they understand everything the man has been through the last couple years. Either way almost everyone has heard of Barry Bonds. Those who know more about him understand how he is currently chasing the all time home run record in the MLB, with the steroid controversy chasing him. Many believe that Bonds has used steroids, while many believe that he hasn't.

Like I said Barry Bonds is currently chasing the Home Run record in Major League Baseball. As I write this article he is 11 homeruns away with 745 in his career. Just stop for a second and think about that number. 745 homeruns is a gigantic number when you are talking about homeruns. The only problem is that many believe that most of Barry's homeruns were juiced, or hit while he was supposedly on steroids. Let me make something clear, Barry Bonds has never tested positive for steroids or performance enhancing drugs. All the commotion about him and the drugs is merely assumption and nothing more then that. How can someone's legacy and life be based on an assumption. In our country we follow the law innocent until proven guilty. Barry Bonds seems to be guilty while proving he is innocent.

Many argue the case that Barry Bonds has just cleaned up since the whole steroid rush into baseball. Even if this were true which no one knows besides Barry himself, he still has the power that these supposed steroids were providing him. He has hit 11 homeruns so far this year, and hasn't played in every game. Many people argue that last year during the steroids crush Barry Bonds struggled because his numbers weren't very good. The thing these people don't know or understand is that first of all Barry was coming off of knee surgery, where he was having trouble walking at times. Secondly Barry really didn't struggle. Barry Bonds was on or near the top of many statistics that were never really released. For example Barry was at the top for Homeruns per hit. Meaning for all the hits or outs he scored during the year he had more homeruns than most. This was a statistic not released or talked about because it only proved that Barry Bonds was clean with power to hit the long ball.

I happened to come across a very upsetting fact a few days ago about what people feel about Barry Bonds. Sportscenter and ESPN recently released a poll about many questions surrounding Barry Bonds. One of those questions was whether or not Barry deserved to be inducted into the Hall of Fame once it was his time. I find it extremely sad that only a little over half of the people poled said yes. How can it be that someone who is chasing and will probably pass the Homerun record not be inducted into the Hall of Fame? Barry is one of the best things that has ever happened to baseball, and could possibly not be in the Hall of Fame. Imagine this scenario. The man atop the all time homerun board is not in the Hall of Fame. Does that mean that the man was not good at baseball? How could that be with so many homeruns? Another astonishing fact that many people don't know is that Barry is the only person to be in the 500 club for homeruns and stolen bases. There is no one even close to him, as there is no one even in the 400 club for this statistic.

Barry Bonds is quite possibly one of the best things to ever happen to the game of Baseball. He is currently 11 homeruns from taking the all time lead for homeruns. Yet some people still feel that Barry isn't deserving of all that he has done. They make the assumption that he was on steroids at some point, yet Barry has never tested positive, and still has the power to this day. I am excited for the day that Barry Bonds breaks the Homerun record, and eventually the day he is inducted into the hall of fame.

Awesome article, I love this side of the argument. I also have a defense of Bonds that you may be interested in...It should be released soon under the title "Barry Bonds didn't do it."

The reason no one roots for Bonds is because he is very unlikable as a person. No one outside of San Fransisco really wants him to succeed because he has always been antagonistic to the public. The fact that he now cries victim and does a lot of publicity stunts should not buy him goodwill. He will get into the Hall of Fame until steroids show up and he certainly will break the HR record. But I won't be rooting for him.
