Does the Bible Promote Violence?

Part 3 of the Series

Another form of hate is the violent stoning of people to death. In the book of Deuteronomy, it refers to a woman that is not a virgin on her wedding day. If the bride is found not to be a virgin, she will be stoned to death according to the Bible. Yet another stoning death will occur if a married man or woman is found to have had sex with another person's husband or wife, both of the parties committing adultery are stoned to death.

Violent deaths are done in other countries because the Bible says that these people must die. The person is stone to death slowly. This is not a quick and painless death, but a death that is slow that the person endures torturous pain. People, not just one person, throw stones at the person until finally death occurs. The stones are not large enough to cause instant death, but are small but painful.

Why would someone want to believe in a book that teaches violence and death? Why is the world filled with so much violence? Look at the Bible and then try to teach your children that violence is wrong. How can you raise a child to be an upstanding adult, when you subject them to the readings in the Bible that promote stoning of men and woman for adultery for not being a virgin on the wedding day? Of course, it does not say that a man has to be a virgin on his wedding day.

A woman in Iran was tortured with whipping until she confessed to and adulteress affair. Once she confessed, only to stop the lashings, she was sentenced to death by stoning. As of July 31, 2010, she has a reprieve. Now she will not be stoned because of pressure from around the world to stop the stoning, but she is still on death row.

The last stoning in Iran was in 2007, when Mahboubeh M was forced to confess to adultery by being threatened with the pouring of boiling water over her head. She confessed to save herself from torture, but was stoned in secret. The world found out about her stoning after it was done. The woman was buried up to her shoulders and the guards proceeded to throw stones at her head until she died a brutal death.

This practice is acceptable because the Bible tells me so. Why would one believe in a book that promotes torture, death by stoning and violence?
