Does the Bible Support the Law of Attraction?

Inspirational Bible Verses Define God's Formula for Abundance

Nannette Richford
Many wonder whether a good Christian can also be a believer of the Law of Attraction and fear that subscribing to the belief contradicts the Word of God. Somehow, accepting the fact that our thinking affects the world around us is counterintuitive and seems to undermine the power of God. I assert that God is the one who created both the Universe and the powerful force we call the mind and that tapping that great potential is inline with the teachings of the Bible.

I've always been captivated by the thought that what we think and what we believe ultimately manifests in our lives. As a product of the 70's, I devoured "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" and "Illusions" by Richard Bach, delving into the realm of how and what we think and believe manifests our reality.

Sometime later, I came across on old copy of "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale and was struck by the similarities between this "biblically based text" and the work of Richard Bach. Suddenly, I realized the concept that our thinking holds the power to transform our lives had a Biblical basis.

Not only does the Bible tell us that our thinking determines whom and what we are it instructs us to change our thinking in order to change our lives. It further addresses the conditions necessary to receive our heart's desires.

Our Thinking Sets the Stage
Proverbs 23:7
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.

Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Proverbs 23:7 emphasizes the phenomenal power of our thoughts, while Romans 12:2 instructs us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. As humans, we tend to believe that our thinking changes as the circumstances of our lives change, but according to the Bible, that simply isn't so. Our lives transform as a result of changed thinking. This simple step lays the foundation for attaining our dreams and goals.

Faith: A Necessary Ingredient
Mark 9:23
"Everything is possible for him who believes."
Matthew 17:20
He said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ''ยน..."Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."
Luke 17:6
If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this tree, Be uprooted and planted in the sea, and it will obey you.

In these verses, God adds one more requirement to receiving that which we desire'"faith. In Matthew 17:20 we learn that with faith anything is possible. Many Christians mistakenly interpret this as faith in God and add a long list of qualifiers to receiving anything from God, but that's not what the Bible says. It clearly tells us that our faith (or belief) in the power to accomplish the seemingly impossible is the key to manifesting it in our lives.

Receiving Blessings

Matthew 21:22
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Luke 11:9
9 "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 9:29
"According to you faith, be it unto you."

Here, we find that in order to receive, we must ask, but asking alone is not enough. We must believe and have faith that what we ask for will be brought to pass. Many fail to ask assuming God knows their needs and will provide for them. Many ask and do not receive and rationalize that it is because "the answer is no", but that's not why the Bible says we fail to receive. The Bible clearly outlines the conditions for receiving'"renew our thinking, ask, believe and have faith that it will come to pass.
