Does a Career Change During a Recession Scare You?
With People All Around You Losing Jobs, If You Have the Right Skills You Will Survive
So how do you make a career change that is right for you during a recession? Here are some options to consider as you plan your next career change:
The Education Field
With the help of the Internet the field of Education is a growing business. More people are looking to further their career, and many are looking at furthering it with Colleges and Universities courses on the Internet. During a recession, more adults take continuing education, College and University courses to further their career. When people think of schools they think of children, but as we can see this is not necessarily the general rule. While you will not necessarily be a millionaire when you retire, you will make a decent living with opportunities nationally as well as internationally.
Healthcare Industry
With aging baby boomers, the largest growing segment in the population, a career change into the healthcare industry would definitely make a worthwhile career change. You would definitely be making the right choice if you had such skills as an Information Technology technician. The healthcare industry, should continue to grow, both nationally and internationally, so if you like to travel, this is the industry for you.
Pharmaceutical Industry
With the aging baby boomers, and as long as physicians continue to prescribe drugs, you should be safe for a long period of time. You should be able to work as a pharmacist or as a quality assurance analyst in the pharmaceutical laboratory, making good money.
Accountant and Auditor
You can get work in the IRS or any Accounting firm. Every accounting firm does tax returns and tax laws change every year. The IRS has got to find their money that people are not reporting in their income tax return. Companies have to file income statements every year, so Auditors are required to check these income statements and balance sheets.
Military
The Military is going high tech. Actually, the military is one of the driving forces behind developing high tech. The military and Hollywood have done more for technological development than any other industries put together. If you have any technological skills the military is the place to go. They will continue to train you and they will also pay much of your living expenses.
Security Industry
Computer security and the security officer in the mall are both extremes in a growing field. In the computer industry, this is becoming more important, as in the attacks, believed to be initiated by North Koreans on important US government computer networks.
Unfortunately, many municipalities have been trying to or have been cutting back on their police forces. Many people have been forced to look at using security firms to protect themselves and their property. This is becoming a growing industry.
The Government
The Democrats have been forced to use public funds to kick start the Economy with public works projects. This is an old Keynesian trick, that has worked since the second World War. Even though ex-president Bush has left the economy in dire straits, and he has left President Obama with an incredible deficit, President Obama has no choice but to dig deeper into the public trough to kick start the economy.
Even though this recession may look depressing, you should still be able to benefit from a career change.
