Does Your Cat Have You Well Trained?

Cats have the reputation of being the most difficult house pet to train. The main reason for this is that cats spend much of their time training us, the people who care for them. Between training us and sleeping, little time is left for other tasks.

Does your cat have you well trained? Or, has your cat given up in despair and now views you as intellectually challenged? Every cat owner knows that look, the "how can you be so dumb?" look. Nothing hurts worse than the look from ten pounds of pity.

Still refuse to believe that your cat has you trained? Here are some examples that will prove the point.

Do you feed your cat at the same time every day? Most cat lovers do and the main reason is that they do not want to put up with the nudging and vocalizing that the cat does if you do not feed them on time. You're trained.

If your cat is an indoor / outdoor cat, do you let them in and out when they want? That scratching at the door is a signal and you respond to it every time. You're trained.

Does your cat ever sleep on your lap? How often do you stop them and how often do you allow them? Nearly all the time they get their way. Sit. Stay. Good human!

Are there certain places the cat does not like touched or scratched? You avoid them when petting the cat because you know it will growl or nip at you. You're trained.

When you hear a noise in another room, do you get up and go, see what is going on? If you've been trained to come when called, you do. The cat has usually left you a little something as a reward.

How often does your cat pick you up for a little cuddle and sweet talk? Has your cat ever bought you a special mattress to sleep on? Did your cat spend time in the grocery store's candy aisle picking out treats for you? When was the last time a cat drove you to the doctor's office?

It may be time to accept that your cat has you well trained. If there is work to do, get with the program. Nothing hurts worse than knowing that your cat thinks you're stupid.
