Does Your Child Need a Daily Vitamin?

Knowing and doing what is best for your children can be one of the toughest things that an adult faces. There are millions of articles and books written based on what it believed to be the best for raising and caring for a child. Many of the words and authors contradict and down the ideas of others. They often leave parents not knowing which direction that they should turn. A child's health is no different. Even pediatricians have different views on how parents should deal with sick children and keep children healthy.

Most parents do all that they can to keep their children healthy. They protect them as a young infant and keep them indoors and out of the germs of the public. They take them for regular check-ups and exams by doctors. Many parents also begin giving their children vitamins to keep them strong and to keep their immune systems healthy.

Because the majority of children do not eat enough of the right types of foods to get all of the vitamins and minerals that they need, many doctors will suggest giving children a daily vitamin. Even though your child takes a daily vitamin, he/she should still eat healthy foods. Vitamins are not meant to take the place of a child's healthy diet.

Most children are in need of vitamins such as vitamin D, vitamin C, and vitamin E. They also need more calcium and iron than they are taking in from foods. The amount of sugar and non-nutritional foods that children eat and drink often leave a child lacking in things that are good for them.

One push from many doctors is for children to be strong in omega-3 fats. These fats are the fats found in salmon. For this reason, many doctors and health article will suggest feeding your family salmon on a regular basis.

Another new push for children by doctors includes probiotics. Probiotics are good bacteria that live in the intestines. When you have lots of good bacteria, they can crowd out the bad bacteria. The big push for probiotics now comes in the form of yogurt. There are many yogurt products out there now that are claiming to be healthy for bother adults and children. Many children snacks have now been created that are covered in yogurt.

So do children need a daily vitamin? Perhaps it would not hurt. Trying to give your children all the things that they need from healthily foods is the best choice. However, we all know that in today's society, children and adults alike both lack in healthy eating.
