Does the Confederate Flag Represent Slavery?

Is the Confederate Flag a Thinly Veiled Attempt at Supporting Racism in America?

Is the confederate flag a thinly veiled representation of slavery? This question has been debated in literally thousands of arguments over the last few hundred years and is still hot in debates throughout our daily lives. Everyone seems to have an opinion about this topic and it really depends on your ability to see other people's perspectives.

I am a Caucasian male with no previous known history of any links to slavery. I have no knowledge of my family participating in slavery by ownership of other human beings nor any knowledge of my family members being enslaved. This would make it very easy for me to put a light emphasis on the confederate flag having any meaning to my family. My family was not here in America during the time when the confederacy existed. With no obvious interest in the confederacy or its flag it gives me no emotional connection.

The confederate flag is a representation. The confederacy believed in and fought for owning human beings as slaves. There is no truthful debate that goes against this fact. Therefore if you believe in what the confederacy stands for, fights for, and will die for, then you represent a belief that the slavery of other human beings is a moral cause. The confederate flag is a physical representation of the confederate beliefs. If you currently fly or have flown the confederate flag, you believe that the south will rise again, that the slavery of African Americans is a just cause and will at some point become an acceptable belief system at some future moment in our country.

Most of the world believed that the earth was flat and that we would fall off the face of the earth if you went too far. There comes a time in our own personal history that we must began to face certain realities.

Reality #1 - The south will not rise again.

Reality #2 - The world has decided as a majority that slavery is an inhumane practice.

Reality #3 - The Confederate flag is a representation of slavery and racism and anyone who proudly flies this flag has a strong belief in these practices.

Reality #4- The World is not flat and the whole world knows it.

Reality #5- Natural Selection takes care of those that do not evolve with the rest of the world.

I don't need to have millions of my own color or creed enslaved to know something is immoral, dead wrong, and a crime against humanity.

What are your thoughts?

It's a fact the south represented slavery. It's the reason why they wanted to seperate. People here have to get over the fact that those supposivly god loving folks in the southern army were slavers, its what they represent. It's what the flag represents.

@Brenda, youre truly an idiot. who are you to say that we did them a favor? Not everyone in Africa is poor first off, because I know plenty of well educated, well to do people who live in Africa. Dont forget USA has lots of people who are living in horrible conditions as you put it. And @ Dixie, you sound like a racist, quite frankly. What did MLK get arrested for? Protesting ignorant white people like you who make the rest of us rational white people look bad. Dont forget that was in the 60's in the heat of the civil rights movement. I bet your fingers were itching to write the n-word. But although the confederate flag may not solely represent the desire for a slave based economy, do not act like that wasn't a HUGE factor in the civil war. Especially considering that cotton was on of the MAIN sources of revenue. And again @Brenda you supposed "Cherokee" I am especially disappointed in you, especially knowing damn well that your "people" have practically bee

I have proudly been flying myConfederate Flag since I was 7. I'm 17 now, and still have one outside my house, and two hanging in my room. The Confederate Flag was originally a BATTLE FLAG. It DOES NOT stand for Slavery, or Bigotry. You need a history lesson

the flag does not stand for slavery. It stands for heritage, courage to stand up, and the proper place for power in the government

Following on. Racism works both ways. Our flag stood for Southern independence and sovereignty, but people like you love to put a different slant on it.I'm Irish, and I'm proud, no, extremely proud that my ancestors fought for the South, not for slavery, but for Southern independence.Get real and check your Northern Unionist history.I think you'll find it quite tarnished.

What utter rubbish and nonsense Shane.Read up on your history man.The Confederate Flag represented the Southern States who wanted independence from the North, who were squeezing us financially and economically. As for being debated for hundreds of years - it's now 2010 - that makes it 149 years. Simple maths Shane. If you think our flag represented slavery, what do you think of the border states that were loyal to the North where slavery was allowed to continue? End of arguement man. The Union Jack, and other European flags dominated whole continents at one point in history. They subjugated, enslaved, and exploited whole peoples. These facts are now only spoken about in the classroom during a history lesson, and that's it. These countries and their flags are now allies with the USA - nothing wrong with that at all.But how fickle people are, and what short memories they have. But just mention the Confederate Flag, and everything hits the fan. Long may the REBEL FLAG fly high and proud. Racism

yes study before posting BS like this bud.
the confederate flag did not bring the slaves over here to American. If it was not for us, they would still be slaves but in Africa. if anything they should at least respect us because they now can live in the land of the free. Do some research for your self... you have it all wrong buddy. Oh and as long as we are the USA and are 1 nation.. the confederate flag will never die off. No matter what
