Does delaying sex make relationships better? According to new research by Dean Busby of the Brigham Young University School of Family Life it does. Having sex early in a relationship can indeed ruin a relationship faster than waiting for the right time. If you have sex early on, you run the risk of staying in a relationship because the sex is great even when other areas in your relationship are bad.

Sex is only part of a relationship the rest is honor, love and respect, which should be the top priorities when entering into a long-term relationship. Sex should be the last thing that comes into play because in order for it to be great you need the other factors to be at their best.

According to Dean Busby couples who have sex on the first date have the worst outcome in relationships. "What seems to happen is that if couples become sexual to early, this very rewarding area of the relationship overwhelms good decision making and keeps couples in a relationship that might not be the best for them in the long run."

According to the research done by Dean Busby it sounds like waiting to have sex is beneficial and makes relationships last longer. Research showed that 22% of people waiting to have sex until marriage had longer lasting relationships. Twenty percent of people had relationship satisfaction in every area that counts. Every relationship deserves great sex and waiting made sexual quality 15% better.

The next question is should you wait to have sex? If you are a believer in waiting until marriage to have sex, then yes by all means make your relationship last. If your partner loves you and there is an understanding on both sides then the relationship will be better in the end. In addition, it adds trust and stability to relationships. There are 15% of men and women who have sex just to have sex and not in it for the long haul. For this reason, alone it is a great idea to wait to have sex. This ensures that your feelings are not hurt and your partner does not want you just for sex.

The methodology used in this study is flawed. Participants in the study are all students at BYU, a mormon institution. That is not a representative sample. It's irresponsible journalism not to mention this in the story.
