Does Your Drink Say Something About You

Kayla R.
We all know them, or perhaps are them, the type of person who walks into a bar and knows exactly they want to drink. In fact, it is pretty much the same thing they drink every time they are out, and the same item they stock their liquor cabinet with. Although this may be an extreme example of an avid drink lover, the truth is, if you drink alcohol at all, the chances are that you have a favorite drink of choice. So what does your drink say about you? Forget about the days of playing twenty questions with a person you just met, a study suggests that your drink of choice can tell a little bit about the type of person you are. A psychologist in Britain, Ros Taylor observed, "This study seemed to show a link between your personality and what you drink. This is understandable as everything we do is an extension of ourselves" (BBC News).

The study found that red wine drinkers were considered to be highly "mature" individuals, with refined taste for the better things in life. They were also regarded as "organized professionals, the type of people who alphabetize their CD collection" (or iTunes Library) (BBC News).

Next the area of the study addresses vodka drinkers, who are coupled in the study with white wine drinkers. The study states that "vodka drinkers represent a younger version of this (specific) personality type" ( BBC News) noting that each of the vodka drinkers and white wine drinkers tend to be "entrepreneurial" in nature (BBC News). It goes on to express that vodka and white wine drinkers are inclined to think that, " Fashion is important and they like being up to date with modern style. Whereas a red wine drinker might opt for pinstripe, vodka and white wine drinkers favor Giorgio Armani or designer equivalents. They also tend to be opinionated and independent" (BBC News).

The study continues with the projected personalities of tequila consumers, stating that tequila drinkers tend to be, "Really goo fun to be around, gregarious in nature and extrovert, the tequila drinker is typically younger in behavior and outlook" (BBC News). The second to last group in the alcoholic drink study discusses the type of person who drinks gin, explaining that, "The gin drinker, unlike the tequila drinker, has accepted the reality of their own existence. They focus on the home, family, friends..." (BBC News).

The last group is the beer and rum category. Curiously these two types of alcohol are grouped together much like the vodka and white wine drinkers. They are described as being "...experimental and constantly creative in thought and behavior. However, the majority of these ideas are never acted upon when they are superseded by other ideas" (BBC News).

I must note that the study based their findings about each personality type by the make of car each alcohol drinker in the study chose. In addition, the study also published a number of disagreements to the original study findings, by local alcohol drinkers in the neighborhood.
