After running our Hoover Windtunnel HEPA vacuum, we vacuum again using the Dyson D24. We then continue vacuuming the entire house, including lamp shades and other hard to reach spots, to get a full picture of what this little machine can do.
The result
We were amazed with the resulting full canister of dust and dirt after just one room. Our Hoover is just not doing the job we had assumed. The rest of the home turns up similar evidence that our year-old vac in our year-old home is not doing the job. The Dyson D24 is pulling up the kid of grime one would expect from years of wear. Unless, of course, you have a good vacuum to begin with! The Dyson D24 vacuum weighs in under twelve pounds, easily assembles in under ten minutes, and cleans up and maneuvers better than any model we have tried.
This lightweight wonder corners on a dime. Pivoting into the most awkward corners with its well-hyped "ball" design, it is so easy to vacuum under the front of kitchen cabinets and furniture. This ball is actually more than a visual draw. We really can get into all those nooks and crannies.
I love the easy-reach wand that extends from the vacuum, which is actually the handle just pulled out and flipped over. The only down side is that the cord has to be completely unwound to accomplish this, but it is a relatively simple task, considering the overall convenience of the wand. Limited attachments are included, but more are available for purchase to make cleaning the entire home easily within reach.
The exceptional cleaning power of this vacuum is amazing, considering its small size. The D24 model does have a narrow deck and would not be the first choice for fast cleaning of large homes, but the lightweight construction is a major plus. This model stores in any small closet or corner with ease. For larger spaces, the D25 is recommended, though slightly larger and heavier. The wider deck makes cleaning larger spaces a little faster with the same exceptional quality of the D24.
I find the Dyson to be the easiest bagless vacuum to empty, with its easy off canister and one-touch opening. With a simple push of a button, emptying is complete with no touching of the dirty contents. The canister closes automatically and easily snaps back into the vacuum. Filter cleaning is recommended once a month to maintain the hygienic HEPA 2-filter system. After 6 months of regular use, we see no signs of loss of suction.
Dyson D24 has a suggested retail of $399 and may be purchased at retailers such as WalMart, Target, Sears, and Kohl's.
