Do you ever wonder if that bag of potato chips or bowl of ice cream you had late last night to blame for the pimple on your chin the next morning? Eating greasy and fattening foods is commonly believed to be a cause for acne, but is your favorite indulgence really to blame?

While it is true that eating a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables and lean protein will do wonders for your skin and help clear your acne breakouts. Does that mean that anything less then healthy will make your acne worse? Unfortunately, the answer is more complicated then a simple yes or no.

However, while moderate junk food typically will not cause acne in most people, there is an exception to the rule and some people will experience acne break outs when eating certain foods. The most common food sensitivity is an allergy. Many people have allergies, and it is rare for an allergy to cause an acne like reaction, but it does happen. To combat this, try to limit your diet to raw or organic fruits and vegetables.

If you notice an increase in your acne after you eat a generous amount of certain foods, you may be sensitive to that particular food. Try and cut the food out of your diet completely for a period of three weeks and see if the acne doesn't subside.

So, maybe there is some truth to junk food causing acne for some people, but most of us can enjoy the occasional candy bar without acne regrets. Especially if you are already eating a well balanced diet and drinking plenty of water.
