In the 1970s Chrysler was in deep do do and they hired Lee Iacocca.(A former Ford employee) Mr Lee Iacocca borrowed money from the Federal Government and turned the company around repaying the note ahead of schedule.. Perhaps Mr Lee Iacocca still has the "better idea" play book. Are we missing the boat not hiring Mr Lee Iacocca to be a Car Czar instead of a committee that will hold endless meetings and accomplish nothing?
I can remember my Dad telling a story about a court case when Mr Ford was challenged about his ability to run Ford Motor Company. He was asked what he would do if the current model Ford four speed transmission began having problems. Mr Ford proclaimed "I call number seven on my speed dial. That is the best engineer I have in our transmission division." Each problem the attorney presented Mr Ford had an expert to solve the problem. When the attorney asked Mr Ford if he thought of himself as an intelligent man. He proclaimed "I am smart enough to hire the most intelligent men and women in their field." If I remember Mr Lee Iacocca's book he made a similar statement s during his reconstruction of Chrysler...Perhaps it was from the "Better Idea" play book.
I know this country has some very grave financial issues. I also know that the business folks will solve all of them if we can get the politicians to listen. Ford Motor company has given us a good example of this early in the recovery process. I haven't heard any politician (Republican or Democrat) asking how they did it... perhaps we should ask for them, I also wonder if we could apply this knowledge to Fanny Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG, etc. From what I know Ford does have a "Better Idea" and we all need to know what it is....Mr Obama are you listening?

Post a CommentI always owned Ford products growing up. They kept me from getting hurt in more than one accident where I was hit by other people too. I love Ford!
;-);-)
You know the irony is that so many Americans have knocked Ford for a while, yet look who is standing. Nice perspective.
Good job done here.
This is interesting. Don't you think though, that there's a difference between real business people (Ford), and business quislings (AIG, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, et al.,)? Maybe the better idea has been business all along.
Excellent article! :-)
