Does George Lopez Really Think Race is Reason for Firing?

Linda M. McCloud

By now, you probably know that George Lopez's television show, "Lopez Tonight" was cancelled. This happens in television land. However, last night George made a remark during his monologue that he was fired because of the color of his skin.

Now people are wondering about the remark. Does George really believes this or once this a joke that really wasn't funny?

He went on to talk about the sequel to the Smurfs movie in which he does one of the voices and stated: "So today I lost some work because I'm brown, but I got some work because I'm blue!"

If these are jokes, many aren't laughing.

Coincidentally, George wasn't too happy years ago when ABC cancelled his comedy series "George Lopez Show." He publically stated that he felt dumped then. Yet, he didn't say anything about race being an issue.

i don't think it had to do with race, the show just didn't make enough money for the network or cable channel it was on....and maybe people did not find it funny....i hate the race card....no matter who we are or where we came from, if we have talent then that is lucky for us and we should share it and hope it entertains, if not, well, they cancel your show!

excellent article - George forgets that his tired jokes are no longer funny because we might offend somebody making them - no matter what color the skin is. I do not like blonde jokes much.

Judging by these "jokes", I doubt the color of his skin had much to do with his firing! cheers

It’s all about ratings. If a show is not pulling in good enough ratings the Network will cancel it.

I think some of his own discriminatory remarks were more of a reason for his firing than the color of his skin. He has a habit of opening his mouth and inserting his foot in a not so funny manner, like calling Kirstie Alley a "pig" when she was on Dancing with the Stars. It just wasn't funny.

    Interesting.

Interesting and thought provoking. If he was joking, I don't think that anyone laughed at the punchline.
