Does Jennifer Grey on Dancing with the Stars Have an Unfair Advantage?

The Elephant in the Room or No Big Deal?

Jolie du Pre
Jennifer Grey on Dancing with the Stars is the current leader with a total of 24 out of 30 from her Jive with Derek Hough in episode 3. The 50-year-old actress, best known for her role as Baby in the movie Dirty Dancing, has dance in her background and looks like a natural on the dance floor. Does she have an unfair advantage over the other celebrities of season 11?

Can anyone beat Jennifer Grey on Dancing with the Stars?

Although Audrina Patridge and Rick Fox get an A for effort in dancing for the big prize, can they beat a natural? Watch Jennifer Grey on the dance floor and you're looking at a woman who makes it appear effortless. At times, you'd think she was one of the professional dancers, such as her partner Derek Hough. Last night, in her sexy gold dress, Jennifer Grey looked confident because she had every reason to be confident.

Are you at an unfair advantage if you studied dance in your past life?

Jennifer Grey, a former student at New York's prestigious Dalton School, studied dance. But is her training enough of a lethal weapon against her opponents? Not according to Jennifer Grey, "I never went to class more than once a week. I was a bit of a mess. I could never get the combinations of steps, so I was never able to be up front. I always had to watch the people in front of me." Grey says she went to Saturday ballet class as a child and dance classes for exercise as an adult, but after Dirty Dancing, she never danced again.

Jennifer starred in Dirty Dancing when she was 26. She's 50 now. It's been over 20 years since Grey has taken a dance class. Twenty years could probably be considered enough of a time lapse to put you on an even playing field. But the daughter of dancer Joel Grey has dance in her blood, dancer Derek Hough asserts. "Dancing is in her blood, it's in her body, in her soul. You can see the joy she gets out of it."

What is certain is that watching Jennifer Grey on Dancing with the Stars will continue to be a treat. Unless the other dancers step it up, it may be Jennifer all the way to the end.

Another couple will be eliminated from Dancing with the Stars on episode 4 on September 28, 2010.

What do you expect? Bristol Has NEVER danced before, ever! Others have had experience dancing ...Jennifer grey was in Dirty Dancing..Audrina as pretty as she is was having problems with a BF...and could not focus on dancing...
Fans must vote for you each week without fail! If not then you get voted off..How can anyone compare Bristol with someone who has had dancing, many years...that is dumb!

SF, I completely agree. When I wrote this article, it was earlier. Bristol is not a good dancer, but they keep pushing her through. Yet, Audrina, who is a better dancer than Bristol, gets voted off.

Jennifer does well, but she's not on another level. I would guarantee she's done WAY WAY less dancing than Nicole Scherzinger and Evan Lycacek (sp?) have done. She's a PussyCat Doll - they are basically half dancer/half singers. Lycacek is highly trained to move his body in very specific ways to music. Much of skating is dance. Jennifer was in one movie where she didn't dance that well, and her lack of training was obvious and part of the character. I really like her this season in DWTS, but I bet Brandy beats her anyway. Bristol is terrible, and I think the judges are unfairly rating her too high. It'snot her fault, and she's out there trying her best, but it's been ridiculously unfair.

I don't think she has an unfair advantage. Just because it's in her blood, and she took a few dance classes in her youth doesn't give her an edge. I have dance in MY blood and took a few dance classes, and I'm only passable. Any dancing instruction she got during Dirty Dancing was strictly for that film, and it DOES matter that it was over 20 years ago. I can't even catch my breath to dance an entire "Stomp" anymore. I don't think she has any more of an advantage than the olympic gymnasts did, and no one complained about them.

This is an unfair advantage. Many claim that she had not danced in years but as the saying goes, once you learn how to ride a bike you never forget. As for Bristol Palin, she clearly is participating because her mother is well known. Bristol has not done anything except become pregnant as a teenager. This season is a waste of time because Jennifer Grey is expected and is going to win. It's unfortunate for the others who don't have a background in dance but end up dancing well enough to truly deserve the trophy. I won't watch this show again.

People say taking lessons for almost 2 years behind closed doors is unfair! truth is WE ALL WILL FIND OUT THE TRUTH SOON. SAD....

Ken Russell comment is just another person this country with a hatred toward the Palin family. He will miss a good dancing season because of him being unfair toward people. Keep politics out this give a person a chance.

  • coalminersbaby9/28/2010

I feel Jennifer is favored because of her past experience & it is unfair to all the others. She is on another level.

  • Andrea9/28/2010

Of course she does, just as Scherzinger did. Duh..as for elephants in the room, how about all the no-talents that are on tv and followed like Lindsay, the Khardashians those Jersey Shore misfits and let us not forget Paris the stork Hilton.
