The benefits of Medifast are that it produces extremely fast weight loss while you eat/drink 6 meals per day, it is extremely easy to prepare, and you are able to eat up to 7 times per day including meals and a snack.
In theory, you should never be hungry while using Medifast because you are consuming calories every few hours. Every meal and snack is extremely low in calories, and the Medifast limits even such low-calorie foods as sugar-free gelatin, celery stalks, and sugar-free mints.
Obviously, when you are consuming very few calories, your body will release its fat stores to be used as fuel. Even on the Medifast plan, however, it is possible for dieters to be plagued by plateaus. It can be extremely frustrating to reach a plateau while on the Medifast program because you may feel that your body should continue to lose fat indefinitely since you are adhering to such a strict diet.
Plateaus are always temporary. If you continue to follow the Medifast program exactly as directed, you will blast through any plateau. Plateaus can occur because of water retention, so it is important to drink 8-10 glasses of water per day.
You can also help end a plateau by increasing your activity level. Be patient, and do not cheat on the Medifast program. Cheating on the Medifast program is a recipe for disaster. Once you reintroduce your body to the cheeseburgers, ice cream, and tacos that it has been craving, you will amass fat stores the way a sponge absorbs water.
The negatives of Medifast are that it is boring, the shakes and foods are not tasty, and it is extremely difficult to stay on track. Once you go off the program, there is an excellent chance that you will regain the lost weight (and quite possibly more).
If the question is "Does Medifast work?" the answer is a resounding "Yes!" However, it is very expensive, extremely restrictive, and nearly impossible to follow. If you are desperate enough to try anything, Medifast may be for you. If you are willing to strictly adhere to a program no matter how hungry and cranky you get, Medifast may be for you. However, if you are looking for an easy solution to your weight loss problems, Medifiast is not the product for you.
