Does Nancy Grace Have Grace?

Some of Her Contradictions Make it Hard to Determine

Marty K.
Many people express a love for Nancy Grace, and this can be observed from viewers calling in to her show on a daily basis. She has a lot of followers and she's predominant on the CNN network during prime time hours.

Wikipedia provides us with significant background info on Ms. Grace, as follows: "...Grace worked for nearly a decade in the Atlanta-Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney's office as Special Prosecutor. Her work focused on felony cases involving serial murder, serial rape, serial child molestation and arson..."

There were also allegations of prosecutorial misconduct: The Wikipedia article continues: "The Supreme Court of Georgia has twice commented on Grace's conduct as a prosecutor. First, in a 1994 heroin trafficking case, Bell v. State, the Court declared a mistrial, saying that Grace had "exceeded the wide latitude of closing argument" by drawing comparisons to unrelated murder and rape cases....In 1997, the court was more severe. Although its unanimous decision overturning the murder-arson conviction of businessman Wayne Weldon Carr in the death of his wife was caused primarily by other issues, the court made note of Grace's court actions, citing 'inappropriate and illegal conduct in the course of the trial.'"

A law professional should always stand for justice and should never manifest prosecutorial ambition, as I noted in my article, "6 Factors that Could Prevent a Fair Trial in America."

I like watching Nancy Grace, because I feel she is correct the vast majority of the time. As a conservative, I am interested in the rigorous prosecution of criminals and tough sentencing guidelines when warranted. I find myself agreeing with Nancy Grace most of the time, and I'm as outraged as she is about the people allegedly committing the crimes.

Nancy Grace does not appear to be biased toward feminism, generally speaking. This can be observed in her going after female child molesters and expressing indignation toward them and their activities. As a man, I find this to be correct and suitable.

A questionable incident occurred with Melissa Duckett, who committed suicide after an interview with Nancy Grace. I observed this, and my feeling is that Ms. Grace was not out of line, but rather was presenting some hard issues based upon evidence that existed at the time. There was a genuine demand for answers, and it seemed to me that Nancy was uncovering things.

Is a person innocent until proven guilty? Nancy has her own version of this. She upholds that "innocent until proven guilty" applies only until reasonable suspicion or probable cause is uncovered and she tries to convince her audience that this is the correct principle. Consider, however, that "innocent until proven guilty" could not exist at all, if what Nancy says were true. The concept would have to be "innocent until doubt exists" (because presumption of innocence would stop at a point short of proving one guilty).

Either "innocent until proven guilty" is the American way or "innocent until doubt exists" is correct. It can't be both, and I therefore suggest that Nancy Grace is bending the rules.

One of the most notable remembrances of the Nancy Grace show is the Duke Lacrosse debacle, where Nancy persistently took the side of the prosecution with a lack of substantial evidence and a presumption of guilt. Is her agreement with Mike Nifong and agreeing with him any less disgraceful than Nifong, himself?

This is a shame, because again, I find that Ms. Grace is accurate most of the time. As I mentioned, I'm a conservative and I'm for hard-hitting prosecution, when it's appropriate. I am more for the rights of the innocent, however, when they come under false attack. That is my priority, and perhaps this is where I differ from a lot of other conservatives.

It is my belief that Nancy Grace should publicly apologize for her position in the Duke case, but like most prosecutors, she is very unlikely to make an admission when wrong. I feel that her conduct in this matter is a betrayal of a grand proportion. I find it difficult to hold a positive view of Nancy Grace because of this, as well as the other questionable conduct earlier in her career.
