Does Patrick Swayze Have Cancer? Only Five Weeks to Live?

Cancer Battles of the Rich and the Not so Rich

Has Patrick Swayze only got five weeks to live? According to news reports, the claims of pancreatic cancer have been unclear. Reports have been stated that Patrick Swayze was diagnosed in late January and that the cancer has spread to other organs only giving him five weeks to live. The reports also said that the doctors are no longer optimistic that the radical chemotherapy treatments that he had been undergoing at the Stanford University prestigious cancer center in Palo Alto will be successful, as reported by the National Enquirer.

Having any type of cancer can be very painful and make a person feel as though their life has already ended. I will never forget the day that I was told that my grandfather had cancer.

It was a sunny afternoon and everything seemed to be going fine, I often went and checked on my grandfather with my dad every morning when we would wake up. As we arrived at his house, it was filled with a lot of our family members which was very odd to say the least.

Instead of someone telling me what was going on, I had heard them talking about cancer and what treatments were available and how a person might die from this. I blew it off as though it were nothing because I thought that they were just having a regular conversation as always.

My dad was the one who finally told me after he had had a conversation with my grandmother. It wasn't the news that I had hoped to hear, my grandfather had cancer of the prostate.

I had no idea what this was or even what a prostate was used for. I did what any fifteen year old would do, I started asking questions and a lot of them. I found out that if they catch certain cancers in time, it could be removed and they could continue on with their life. If the cancer isn't caught in time and continues to spread, the person could die a slow and painful death. Was this some cruel way of how lie portrayed itself? Dying a slow painful death, I could hear the words echoing down the hall.

I watched as my grandfather went through a stage of depression and my grandmother prayed constantly for him to get better. After a while, it was like my grandfather came to the terms of knowing that he might die and began to live his life like he normally had.

It was a while and several treatments later that we had discovered that the cancer was gone. My grandfather was one of the lucky ones, he had survived.

There are many stages that people go through when they find out that they are dying or might die from cancer. They often go through a state of shock and can't really believe that this is happening to them. Denial comes when they don't want to really believe that they could die or that they are dying. Depression usually follows with them not understanding what has happened or why they have to be put through all of this. After depression, a lot of people will begin to accept that they have cancer and to try and make the most out of their life by continuing their lives to the best of their ability.

I may not understand what exactly my grandfather or Patrick Swayze has had to go through, but I do understand that life can seem unfair at times and it takes all you can to keep moving on even after receiving bad news.
