Does Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End Deserve the Booty?

Faye Meadows
Once again, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" climbed to the top of the box office, and it seems to show little signs of letting up. But, does the movie really deserve all the box office booty?

Many people spent their weekend waiting in line at movie theaters in order to watch the third "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, and the box office ticket sales prove it. Even though the movie broke records, some people are still wondering, is it really worth watching? The movie lasts almost three hours, and some critics have been more than unkind with their reviews. My review might upset some critics, but I really enjoyed "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End".

The movie continues right after its' predecessor, "Dead Man's Chest". Our hero Jack is trapped in Davy Jones' Locker, and his friendly pirate mates are in search of their crazy friend so they can free him and accomplish their own goals and agendas. The beginning of the movie begins how you might expect with a little talking that eventually leads to some major fighting. Once the movie starts picking up, you find yourself intrigued by the unexpected relationship between some of the characters. I find this to be especially true with the Davy Jones' relationship and back story with Calypso. As you learn more about their heart wrenching story, you begin to actually care about their characters. Characters that I didn't really care as much about as the leading characters in "Dead Man's Chest". Another aspect that I found interesting about this particular movie was the major role that Elizabeth played in order for the other characters to accomplish their agendas. She really seemed to showcase her strength both physically and personalty wise. Entertainment could also be found in both the introduction of newer enemies and a few older enemies as well. Feng's stern personality seemed to oddly mix well with the comical Barbossa. As for the movie's story, it seemed to really answer a lot of unanswered questions and tie up any loose ends that may have been left behind in the two previous movies. Also, I found the CGI to also be quite good, especially the scenes that included the ship fights. After watching the movie in its entirety, the ending seemed to me bittersweet but conclusive. I especially enjoyed the short clip after the movie's credits. My only complaint might be that butt was really killing me after sitting there for about three hours.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" seemed to mix in the right amount of comedy, romance, and enjoyable characters to make it a box office hit. So do I think it deserve to be number one? Of course, and I think the ending to "At World's End" leaves a great opening for a future "Pirates" movie.

I wasn't crazy about this film, but I do like your review and you do make some good points. Especially about Davy Jones. The last half was awesome!
