Does the Public Vote Count Anymore?

Rita Jan
"Every vote counts!" A statement which is perpetuated by political leaders and followers everywhere. Well, no, every vote does not count. I am not talking about the electoral colleges and a system that takes away the directly voted president from the public. I am talking about a system that has been set up over many years to take away the vote entirely, official positions being decided by higher ranking officials.

There are, of course, many conspiracy theorists out there who, without evidence, are trying to show everyone how maniacal and evil our government really is. There are also people who have hard evidence of the corruption which lies in every human government on earth, and their voices are thrown into the same category as the first group.

The truth is, corruption is in every form of government, be it a nation, a people, a state, or a farmhouse. We are less than saintly and that means that everybody is part of a messed up plan run by messed up people and perpetuated by messed up laws. However, does this mean that we should not care about electing our officials who run the country? Does this mean that we should just shut up and let what happens happen?

American Idol brings in more voters than any national election anywhere on earth ever has. Why is this? Is it because the American people know which vote counts? Perhaps. Maybe we are, somewhere deep inside, aware of a truth which has yet to be revealed with any true evidentiary support. And if our votes do not count, then who decides the leaders of the country? Is it other leaders who were voted in, or is it leader of whom we have never heard?

Before you go to the polls, remember that things are not always as they appear. Intuition and gut feelings should be taken into account on certain things, and sometimes, Americans as a whole move toward an idea which will fix a social problem, whether or not individuals are trying to fix that problem. I am not sure how to resolve the question of whose vote counts, but hopefully, we are moving toward a solution of this issue rather quickly.
