Does Sarah Palin Have a Tattoo?

Reportedly, She Lost a Bet with Todd

Beth Gray
My husband heard on talk radio that Sarah Palin made a tattoo bet with her husband Todd, and I got interested enough to go digging.

According to a September 2, 2008 news story on the Web site Politico, Sarah Palin's opponent in the 2006 race for Alaska governor, Tony Knowles, put together a 63-page compilation of information about Sarah Palin, mostly from newspaper clippings about her tenure as Wasilla mayor. Among the Palin trivia is this gem:

"Palin Made a Bet With Her Husband About Whether Murkowski Would Get Into the Race-the Loser Had to Get a Tattoo

Palin told The Associated Press that she and her husband, Todd, made a bet on whether Murkowski would run. If the governor says he'll enter the race, Palin has to get the Big Dipper tattooed on her ankle. If Murkowski says no, Todd gets a wedding ring inked on his finger. -- Anchorage Daily News (Alaska), 5/26/06"

This clip apparently refers to whether Frank Murkowski, who was a United States senator for Alaska from 1981 until 2002 and governor of Alaska from 2002 to 2006, would run for re-election in 2006. Murkowski did run, but was defeated by Palin in the Republican primary. Palin ultimately became governor of Alaska in 2006 after defeating Democratic opponent Tony Knowles.

The clip is attributed to the Anchorage Daily News, but an online search of the newspaper's archives did not turn up any article that appeared to be relevant. A similar search of the Associated Press archive turned up nothing.

So I wonder who got the tattoo, or if this is a fabrication -- a fun but politically irrelevant one, at that. According to the terms of the bet, Sarah should be sporting a starry night on her ankle. Sarah spotters, jump in with a comment.
