Does SEO Really Work?

Some people complain that SEO (search engine optimization) doesn't work for them. That might be true, but there's a reason for that - most likely they aren't that well-versed in SEO and they aren't using it correctly. SEO isn't about just writing any old thing and throwing a lot of keywords in there, hoping that people searching for those words through the search engines will find your site.

At that point, you assume that these people will buy what you have to offer because they are already at your Website. In the past, that might have been true to some extent, but there is much more competition for most products on the Internet today, and people have a lot to choose from.

If a keyword search leads them to your site but all you have on there is poorly-written copy that's barely relevant with a lot of search-related terms stuffed in it, the potential customers probably won't stay. They'll simply click back to the search engine and go looking for a site that seems like it was written by more intelligent human beings.

In reality, the people who have trouble with SEO are generally intelligent people - they just don't understand how to write copy for people. Instead, they are writing it only for the search engines, and that's great to get it indexed but not so great to get people interested in what you have to offer. Unless you're extremely unique, there are plenty of other sites that those people can go to in order to buy the same thing that you have.

When you're working with SEO and you want it to be effective and bring customers (and money) to your site, you need to write for the people who will be reading it. The copy that contains the keywords should be written properly and it should have a good flow. The keywords should come about naturally, and you shouldn't try to stuff too many of them in there.

If the search engines find too many of the keywords in the site copy they will mark the site page as spam and they might not even index it. If that happens, all of the hard work you did to fill that page with keywords for SEO will be for nothing. Just write the copy for your site in an engaging and natural way. Use the keywords a few times, but it's not necessary to overuse them - the search engines will find you and rank you higher that way, and so will potential customers.
