Does Vince Young's Fight in a Dallas Strip Bar Deserve a NFL Suspension or a Fine? Fight Video Here!

Will Vince Young's Fighting Effect the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy?

On June 13, 2010 Vince Young, the Tennessee Titans quarterback engaged in a senseless confrontation while enjoying strip-club festivities at Dallas club called Onyx. Although not confirmed, the antagonist may have provoked the fight by referring to an upside down "Long-horn" symbol in order to anger Young.

Before Vince engaged in the melee, spectators claimed the speedy quarterback was trying to obtain singles through a cash exchange to compensate the ladies.

Soon after on June 14, 2010, local law enforcement authorities issued a minor misdemeanor charge (Class C assault citation) that most expect to be taken care of with a simple cash payment under $500.00.

In comments afterwards, a contrite Young is already setting the stage in asking for forgiveness, making public media statements in hopes of assuaging the NFL Commissioner's heavy hand of suspension.

Specifically, warm in most spectators' memory is the fact that Ben Roethlisberger was recently suspended in April 2010, for six games (with possibility of reduction) for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy with an alleged assault on a Georgia co-ed. Commissioner Roger Goodell went so far as to write a personal letter ringing of disappointment to Ben, even though local prosecutors refrained from charging him with assault, or even worse attempted rape.

Many will focus on Goodell's response to Young's situation and both detractors and supporters will make arguments as to how Goodell's disciplinary measures will effect both the league and the players as precedent setting. Although, one could make the argument that Young's situation is vastly different from Ben's the fact of the matter is that Young's case shows evidence of law enforcement involvement which may aggravate the forthcoming NFL punishment.

This writer predicts a NFL penalty amounting to a $1000.00 fine, as assaults on women attract much more societal attention than two male bozos slugging in an unsavory strip joint. In either event, one can be doubly sure that Vince Young will have a civil suit pending within a week as greedy bystander(s) look to cash in on his NFL fame.
