Does 'Zookeeper' Make Moviegoers Howl with Wild Laughter?

John Barnett

Though a comedy of poor quality, Tennessee movie goers flocked to see "Paul Blart: Mall Cop." Kevin James has returned to the genre of comedies based upon professions with "Zookeeper." Are Tennessee viewers willing to suspend their disbelief again and enjoy it for what it is? Will lightning strike twice for comedian, Kevin James?

"If you didn't hear me in the theater- I was laughing pretty loud. The problem is, it was at times geared at the movie itself instead of the jokes. Come on. Some of that was just bad. The gorilla scenes were pretty funny, but that little monkey was kind of annoying. So bad it was good." -- Christina Rodriguez, 35, Memphis

"Kevin James can make even the worst movie awesome. His goofy personality and air of slight paranoia lend themselves well to the spotlight. It did kind of drag on, but I can forgive that. I was cracking up every couple minutes and that's what a comedy should be." -- Trevor Fallon, 22, Bartlett

"I was really impressed by the voice acting for the animal cast. None of the animals sounded like the stereotypical way they've been voiced in the past. The gorilla especially caught me off guard. I was expecting some hulking, Brooklyn accent. Don't get me wrong. The film itself was pretty much awful. I just liked that one aspect." -- Sally Berea, 19, Memphis

"I fell asleep at one point, so my memories are a little hazy. I'll keep this short and sweet. Not funny. Who came up with this garbage?" -- Taven Wilson, 22, Orange Mound

"I can't unsee what I just saw, and for that, I am depressed. I only found a few scenes funny. Anytime Kevin James left the zoo, what little humor there was drained away. If this guy is so talented, how does he keep getting stuck in these terrible comedies?" -- Clarissa Alan, 38, Memphis

"Sylvester Stallone as the lion was the highlight of the film for me. Not because he did a particularly good job, no. I love his previous films and this one was pretty bad otherwise. It was just nice to know one of my favorite actors is still around. I did laugh when Griffin split his pants. Cut me, Mick!" -- Rolland Patel, 46, Memphis

"The animals were hit or miss in terms of humor. The lion wasn't funny, nor was the crow. The antelope, frog, and gorilla were all hilarious! The little monkey was okay, but I'm kind of burnt out on monkey humor. I walked out wishing it had been better done. Very poor quality comedy." -- Dennis Young, 24, Millington

"Banana! Someone give that monkey a banana! It was hilarious! Most of the animals did a good job. Too bad they couldn't save the film from the bargain bin. If you haven't seen it yet, don't bother. Give it a rental on Netflix if you really want to see it." -- Jeanie Parker, 29, Memphis

"Kate was an annoying little shrew, but Griffin was overall likeable. I kind of liked how trippy the movie was. I would have enjoyed it more if Kevin James hadn't hammed it up so much. Then again, that's what he's known for." -- Sonny Hughes, 23, Cordova
