Dog Food Review - Diamond Original Dry

Susan Peters
I was contacted by Diamond Pet Food Company, spokesperson Becky Johnson, informing me this company and it's products are NOT included in the recall. The recall I mistakenly referred to was the pet food recall from last year. I am sorry for any trouble this may have caused the Diamond Pet Food Company. Diamond Pet Food will also appear on my "Safe" Lists. Susan Peters

Update:

Soon after I was contacted by Diamond Pet Food company informing me their company had no recalls. The FDA listed several of Diamond Pet Foods on their recall list.

Diamond Dog Food Review

I'm not sure what was actually in this product. The labeling was rather sketchy on it's contents. Diamond was real heavy-handed in the corn. What "meat"?? "Meat" is often rendered dogs and cats. Corn in a dog's diet causes itching, dry skin, kidney and liver failure and is nothing more than a cheap filler to reduce the cost of producing dog food. Where does the "flavor" come from? Most "flavor" comes from the use of manure.

Use of corn, wheat, or soy which cause skin irritation, hair loss, fever, ear infections, kidney failure, liver failure. Diamond Original Dry Dog Food uses corn and wheat as fillers.
Use of by-products. By-products are ingredients used which are not fit for human consumption. By-products are often floor sweepings from a rendering plant.

"Meat" is often rendered dogs and cats as well as other animals such as road-kill. When the source of the meat is known it will be listed as beef, poultry, chicken, turkey, etc. When the source of the meat is not known it is simply called "meat.

Total Score = Ol' Roy dog food, which is considered one of the poorest quality dog foods on the market, scored 5 out of 10. Diamond Original Dry Dog Food scored 5 out of 10.

The life span of your pet should be at least 20 years. Your pet's diet strongly influences your pet's life expectancy. Always look for a quality pet food which scores 10 out of 10.

Diamond Original Dry Dog Food is a pet food I do not consider to be a healthy choice in pet foods.

Meat is not "often rendered dogs and cats." I will agree that these things have been found in dog food but to say that it is most often these things is ignorant. It is very possible that "meat" could be a mixture of chicken and beef, or any number of different species of animals. Nutro for example uses 99% chicken fat and 1% turkey fat and so they are forced to say that it is poultry fat. (these numbers are not accurate but the premise is correct) Unless you can show me proof that most batches of dog food that use the term "meat contain mostly dead dogs and cats, I really would prefer that you "lessen your literary tongue". However if you really do have this proof, please let me know because I am a huge advocate of letting people know about these things. Your review was O.K other than that.
