Dog Friendly Campgrounds around Charlotte

Charlotte is as fast a growing city as they come. There are swank restaurants, great bars, and art districts on every corner. Some might worry that all this growth would make dog friendly activities hard to come across, not the case. Quite the contrary actually; Charlotte has a number county run dog parks all over the city. There are also plenty of dog friendly campgrounds inside and out of the city. If camping isn't your thing, have no fear, there are even dog friendly bars and stores with doggie cocktail hours.

So, no matter what your dog friendly activity fancy is, you are sure to find something for you and your dog to do in Charlotte.

Charlotte/Fort Mill KOA

Don't be put off by suggested stereotypes of chain campgrounds such as KOA Kampgrounds. The Charlotte/Fortmill KOA campground is an amazing dog friendly destination. Pets are welcome at any of the tent and RV camping sites. The best part is, pets stay for free. There is no absurd non-refundable pet fee. The only real drawback is that pets aren't allowed in any of the Kabin rentals.

As with any campground, pets must be leashed and under supervision at all times.

This KOA has a variety of wonderful features such as large shaded camping sites, up to 50 amps for RVs, paved roads, modern bathrooms, pool, min golf, on-site store, and much much more.

Camping prices range from $30 - $33 per night based on the time of year. Each additional adult after the allowed two is an extra $3.

The Dog Bar is an awesome full service bar in the NoDa district. The bar serves wine, beer, and liquer. There is no kitchen, but you are in walking distance to a number of cafes and restaraunts. The Dog Bar has a small inside bar, but the main hang out area is the outside area. The gravel covered area (for doggie accidents) has random seating, a few heaters, some startegicly paced water bowls, and even a few doggie toys.

To bring your pooch the Dog Bar you must pay a $10 membership fee and be able to provide proof of rabies vaccinations.

In addition to just being a cool place to hang out with your dog, the Dog Bar offers other events. In the warmer months the bar can be rented out for private parties. They also host doggie adoption parties, birthdays, and social events, all with live music.

Barkingham Park Dog Park - Reedy Creek
2900 Rocky River Rd.
Charlotte,
North Carolina
704-336-3854

Map

There are many off leash dog parks in the area. Some of these dog parks are divided into two sections; one for smaller dogs and one for larger dogs. Currently the Barkingham dog park is only one large 4 acre fenced in area. There are plans to change this in the future. There is also talk of adding a doggie playground, or agility area in the future.

The drawback to these parks is that you must have a Dog Park Pass to enter and exit the area.

These dog park passes cost $35 a year. You must sign a liability form and give proof of rabies vaccinations.

You can purchase these Dog Park Passes at the Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation Department Administration Building. The building is open from 9-4.
