Dog Friendly Parks in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Joyce Carole
If you are looking for the perfect park to bring Fido, check out these dog friendly parks in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At these parks, your friendly dog can run unleashed and socialize with other friendly dogs.

Pittsburgh's Hartwood Acres

Hartwood Acres is one of the finest parks in Allegheny County. The park contains 629 acres of rolling hills and fields. The most striking feature of Pittsburgh's Hartwood Acres is the well-preserved country estate. Tours of the estate are conducted daily. There are also many special events held at Hartwood Acres including the famous Summer Blues Festival. Dog owners will appreciate the fact that leashed dogs are allowed to accompany their owners to many of the outdoor events held here. Hartwood Acres also has several dog friendly areas where dogs can run off-leash.

Brady's Run Park - Patterson Township, PA

Brady's Run Park is one of my favorite parks in Western Pennsylvania. It helps that it is just a fifteen-minute drive from my home. Brady's Run Park has an enclosed dog park where owners can let their dogs run off-leash. While dogs are supposed to be leashed when walked on the trail at Brady's Run Park, I will admit that my two very friendly (and tiny) Yorkshire Terriers are often left off leash and we have never had a complaint. Brady's Run Park is a Pittsburgh haven for dog lovers and their four legged friends.

Pittsburgh South Park
Pittsburgh's South Park is comprised of 2,013 acres in the Bethyl Park area of Pittsburgh. The park has many picnic areas, hiking trails and a very popular 'wave pool'. South Park is also home to a large off-leash dog area where "Fido" can run free and socialize with other friendly dogs.

Rotary Dog Park - Cranberry, Pennsylvania
Rotary Dog Park is located off Route 19 in Cranberry Township Pennsylvania, just across the street from Cranberry Community Park. Rotary Dog Park offers four fenced areas where Pittsburgh dog owners can let their small or large dogs run free.

Fairview Park - South Fayette, Pennsylvania
Fairview Park is a quiet park with peaceful walking trails that rarely gets crowded. The park is located near Bridgeville and Upper St. Clair off Boyce Road. Fairview Park has flagged areas where dogs are permitted to run off leash. While these areas are not fenced, they are located far from the road.

National Aviary Dog Park - Pittsburgh's North Side
This urban dog park is located off Western Avenue on Pittsburgh's North Side. Here there is an off leash area near the Pittsburgh Aviary where dogs can run free. Dog owners should be aware that this area is not fenced, and the streets surrounding the park can get quite busy. This is a beautiful park though and one of the few dog friendly parks in this Pittsburgh neighborhood.

The Dog Stop - Indoor Dog Park
The Dog Stop is a relatively new Pittsburgh dog parks, and one of the few indoor dog parks in Pittsburgh. Dog Stop is located in Pittsburgh's East End neighborhood. Besides offering Pittsburgh dog owners a place to let their dogs run, the park offers a variety of dog services including obedience classes, grooming and dog daycare.
