How to Train Your Dog the Smarter Way

So you have a new addition to your home, only it isn't quite like you expected. That new little puppy or older dog for that matter with those big brown eyes just doesn't seem to be so pleading anymore.

Now they have taken on a mischievous demeanor. Don't worry, with some good dog obedience training your canine friend will become a well behaved member of your family. Dog obedience training is very important not only for your sanity but for your dog as well. Without guidance they are always in a state of confusion because they don't know what is expected of them. Here are some dog obedience training tips to assist you in your doggie schooling.

Tip 1:

You have to set the rules. In order for him to understand them you must constantly repeat them. Don't think that you only have to tell him once or twice and he will automatically grasp what you expect of him. Dog obedience only is successful by repetition and all dogs learn at different rates

Tip 2:

You must make absolutely sure that you let the dog know you are the boss at all times. If you don't, then he is going end up training you to accept his behavior, the way he wants. You will only be able to teach him if he knows you are in control.

Tip 3:

Be clear with the information that you are relaying to him throughout his dog training. Let him know what acceptable behavior on his part is, and at the same time make sure he understands what you will not tolerate. This way you are setting very distinct guidelines for him.

Tip 4:

Identify the problem. If you are at a stage where the dog appears to be getting stubborn, or has just decided he has enough of this training thing, then do some evaluations. Try to determine if there is a cause for this behavior, which there usually is. For example, he just seems to get the right idea on the command to sit. Well maybe you are not being consistent in the way you are giving the command, so he really doesn't know what you want.

Tip 5:

Don't reward him at the wrong times. This can easily happen during your dog obedience training. For example you want to distract him from chewing your shoes. So you take the shoe away from him, and play with him for a few minutes to keep his mind off it ,so he doesn't go back and do it again. Well now has figured out that if he takes the shoe he will be rewarded with playtime.

Tip 6:

Avoid confusion. Don't have several people try to train the dog at one time. Yes you want him to obey the rules when anyone gives them, but give him a chance to learn them first. So decide who is going to be the dogs master and let them handle the training.

Tip 7:

Be patient. It will get frustrating for both you and the dog at times. If you start to get angry with him, you are just going to instill some behavior problems, which will make things a whole lot worse.

In summary remember with diligent training you are going to end up with a very warm loving companion for many years to come.
