Like most cities, Chicago has strict laws that mandate that you keep your dog leashed at all times when out in public. Luckily, there are fifteen great parks and beaches in Chicago that are dog friendly where you can let your dog run free unleashed.

Dog parks and beaches in Chicago require a special tag from the city. You can get this permit from most vets for a nominal fee of $5.00. If you enter a dog park or beach without this tag you can face fines of up to $1000 and/or 6 months in prison (wow!).

Each dog park or beach has its own set of rules and regulations and hours which it is open. A Chicago Park District sign at the entrance of each park is posted that will spell out that particular park's guidelines.

Chicago parks and beaches that allow unleashed dogs with the proper tags are:

Apparently there are lots of dog lovers in Chicago. I wish we had a dog beach here on the SC coast. Good list of resources.
