Let's face it, even the individual who isn't really a dog lover has a hard time resisting those big puppy eyes staring up at you. This really is the cuddliest stage the dog will be at. Unfortunately it will probably be the most frustrating and trying times, of the puppy and yours relationship. Puppies are inquisitive and mischievous.

You will spend several days running after him/her taking things off of him and shooing him out of places where he don't belong. None of these are anything compared to they many outdoors trips you will be making when you start your dog potty training. You will probably reach a stage where you will think it is just never going to happen. You are doomed to cleaning up those little, but numerous unwanted gifts, that your newest family member is giving you.

On a more serous note you must set some very stringent rules in place for both you and the dog when in comes to dog potty training. Here are a few things that you should know.

Tip #1:

Make sure you are constantly observing the dog. By doing so you will eventually start reading the signs of when he has to go outside. A classic sign is he will start to look around for a place to go. Dogs don't like relieving themselves in areas where they sleep, so they are looking for a place away from there. You can use this clue to get them out doors.

Tip #2

When you are dog potty training, remember there will be times he is more likely going to need to go out. Such as after he eats or awakes from his nap. Often after being stimulated by playing for 10-15 minutes is another good time. Puppies around the 8 week age have very small bladders and bowels, so it doesn't take much to fill or stimulate them.

Tip #3

Make him a creature of habit. When you take him out be sure to take him to the same spot every time. There are two reasons for this. One is his scent will remain there and he will know that it is time to relieve himself. The second point is it will make it much easier when its time to clean up after him when he gets older. He may very likely return to the same spot consistently. The other reason to be sure to go out with him, is to see that he goes and isn't just playing around. Also you want to be able to reward him by praising him, giving him a treat or playing with him for a few moments. He will relate all these good things to going to do his business.

Tip #4

Dog potty training takes a lot of work on your part. When he does have an accident don't scold or rub his nose in it, it doesn't mean anything thing to the dog. Be sure to thoroughly clean the area, it is important that he can't pick up his scent there or it may become a return spot for him.

If you follow these few simple steps to carry out your dog potty training you will find your little guy will become much more likeable in no time at all.
