Dog Star

Hymn to a Loyal Friend

Oakleaf
Dog Star, how I wonder where you are.
You were my best friend from day one.
When I close my eyes I can see your father the dog.
You are my most precious memory.
You didn't like cats, that's for sure and every time we went swimming your fur stank.
However you were very loyal and in my memory the sound of your woof will remain forever.
I mean you are still alive and everything but I will still remember it if you see what I mean.
This is my hymn to a great dog with white fur.
I believe stories should be told about you and your name should pass on through generations.
Some say that dogs are man's best friend and that might very well be correct.
When I come home from work you are waiting for me and if I give you a bone your happiness transcends time itself.
Your ancestors were wolves but you are a bit more friendly.
Once again, please let me express my gratitude for your existence through this poem.
