It's great to have a good time with your dog but amongst all this, you must not forget about its safety. There are some dangers involved when you take out your dog for hiking or other such outdoor activities. You need to be careful or your dog might end up getting badly hurt. It can even be killed! It is your responsibility to make sure that your dog is completely safe while playing outside.
Now what kind of dangers are we talking about here? The biggest threat to dogs when you take them out for hiking is from various other creatures that are found along the hiking pathway. Let us start with the ant hills. They are mostly found down south and are dangerous too. Some of them are huge especially in the southern most parts of America. You need to protect the dog from these ant hills. Fire ants are another problem for dogs whether it is South Carolina or Texas. These ants contain venom inside them and that makes them extremely dangerous. These violent creatures can inject the venom into your dog if it goes near their nests. They see this as a threat to their life and inject the venom for their protection. The sting of the fire ants causes lots of pain. Your dog can actually die from it.
Another serious threat to your dog is from the snakes especially the rattlesnakes. They can not only harm you but also your dog. Snakes prefer the dry land and often make burrows there. The huge logs are often the favorite spot for the rattlesnakes to hide themselves. The snakes have a habit of making rattling noise when they think that they are in some sort of danger. They may bite your dog if its goes near them. The bite is painful and leads to a swelling.
Copperhead is another snake, which is quite familiar in different areas of America. These snakes bite even when they are not provoked and their bites are extremely painful. The effect of copperhead bite depends on the size of your dog. The snakes do not have too much of venom in them and hence your dog may not suffer much if it is huge in size. However things can be difficult for your dog if it is really tiny. The bite can even prove to be fatal for small dogs.
You also need to protect your dogs from scorpions. Their sting is quite painful though it is not dangerous for life. River toads are common during the rainy season. An encounter with them can lead cause seizures in your dog. Spiders and some lizard can also be dangerous for your dog. Dogs are known as a man's best companion and you must ensure that they are completely safe while playing outside. Prevention is better than cure and you must take all the necessary precautions beforehand!
