Why do dogs get teary so often while others do not? Why do they get tear stains? There are many explanations for this. It is important first to understand what can be causing the tearing and then treat and prevent the tearing from coming back. There are a broad band of explanations of why dogs tear up. It can come from several reasons such as;

genetics(breed)

allergies

ingrown lashes

hair in the eyes

dogs health

diet of the dog

airborne irritants

stress or abuse

teething

Tearing can effect the dog in several ways much more than just staining under the dogs eyes.Many people have came to the opinion that it is perfectly nature for the tearing. However having this opinion and not looking to seek a resolution can cause poor health in the dog. The first thing to consider for your dogs excessive tearing would be a trip to the vet. It is very important to keep the area around your dogs eyes trimmed, clean, free of crust and dry. The dog must also be bathed often to keep their body's clean. This not only make your dog smell and feel better. It also removes unwanted irritants and pollutants off of your dog. If the dogs is always rubbing at its eye, it might have an ingrown hair inside the eye lid. The dog could also have a blocked tear duct. Both in which the dog must be treated by a vet for proper treatment and remedy.

Bacteria grows in this excessive moisture under the eyes if it continues to stay wet. In return this will cause additional health issues for the dog. The dogs skin can get irritated. The dog can even get a yeast infection in which also can spread to other areas of the dogs face and body. The yeast infection is one contributing factor in the tear staining in dogs. Fleas also deposit their waste around the dogs eyes and the tears combined create a stain as well. Even the minerals in water and food can create staining, It is recommended to use bottled water over tap water for dogs to prevent them from getting too much of the hard minerals. Not to mention the additive bleach that is used to treat and purify public water. Keep the dog on a balanced diet with plenty of exercise. You may even want to consider changing the dogs food. Your dog may be allergic to an ingredient or maybe some mineral levels in the food that may be causing the issue.

There are several other items that can be used in addition to a well check up and maintenance for your dog. Supplements for toxins can build strength and support their immunity. There are even supplements that will prevent tear staining. The supplement will rid the bloodstream of harmful toxins. Remedies that you sprinkle on the dogs food can also help. Minerals and vitamins are also available to help in this area. Chicken liver also is recommended to work just as the minerals and vitamins. Eye pads are also available to remove tear staining. While these are good ideas as, the main reason for the tearing should be thoroughly explored for the health of your dog. It seems that most of the treatments found are focused on the mineral found in food, water or just helping reducing the tearing or staining itself as key. Sure these will help minimize the problem but not all dogs have excessive tearing for the same reasons.
