Dog Tricks: Dog Kiss

Teaching your dog tricks is a great way to keep your dog mentally in shape. Dog tricks run the gamut from jumping through burning hoops to shaking your hand on command. A great way to start teaching your dog to do tricks is to start with the easy ones.

The dog kiss trick is probably the easiest trick to teach because most dogs want to give you licks when given the opportunity.

The sequence for the dog kiss trick is simple:

1. 
   
2. sit the dog and kneel in front of him
3. lean towards the dog and offer your cheek while saying "cheek kiss"
4. If the dog licks your cheek praise him and give him lots of love
5. Repeat the process 3 or 4 times per session. He will have it in no time
6. 
   

If your dog doesn't kiss you when you offer your cheek, don't despair; it's easy to fix. Simply spread some butter on your cheek and repeat the process. Don't use anything chunky on your cheek or you may induce your dog to nip you.

There are variations on this trick. By using butter you can have your dog kiss different areas (get your mind out of the gutter). Put some butter on the backside of your hand and say "hand kiss. Remember to praise your dog whenever he does what you ask.

Spread some butter on the front of your face and tell him to "lip kiss" or disgust your friends and embarrass your significant other by saying "French kiss".

Starting your dog trick training off with the dog kiss is a great confidence booster for the whole process of dog trick training. It is simple and will undoubtedly be successful.
