Dog-Friendly Beaches in the Cape Cod, Massachusetts Area

The Cape Cod, Massachusetts area has been the preferred vacationing area for many people for many years. A large percentage of these vacationers enjoy the company of their dog or dogs while they are vacationing. Fortunately for them, there are several beaches in the Cape Cod area that allows dogs, making this an area that is perfect for vacationers with dogs.

The beaches in the Cape Cod, Massachusetts area that welcome dogs include Barnstable Town Beaches, Chatham Town Beaches, Dennis Town Beaches, Falmouth Town Beaches, Harwich Town Beaches, Truro Town Beaches, Cape Cod National Seashore, Wellfleet Town Beaches and Sandy Neck Beach. Many of these beaches only welcome dogs in their off-season so it is best to call and make sure of the dates that the dogs can actually be on the beach. As with any place that dogs are welcome it is always important that dogs be well behaved, usually leashed and that they be cleaned up after.

Barnstable Town Beaches, which are located off Route 6A in Barnstable, Massachusetts are overseen by the town of Barnstable, Massachusetts. This includes the Hyannis beaches as well as Craigville, Sandy Neck and Kalmus. Dogs are allowed on these beaches from the 15th of September until the 15th of May and they must be under control either with a leash or under voice control. Chatham Town Beaches, which are located off Route 28 in Chatham, Massachusetts are overseen by the town of Chatham, Massachusetts. This includes the Hardings Beach, Light Beach and Ridgevale Beach. Dogs are allowed on these particular beaches from the middle of September until the end of May and they must be leashed. Dennis Town Beaches, located off Route 6A in Dennis, Massachusetts are overseen by the town of Dennis, Massachusetts. This includes the Chapin Beach, Mayflower Beach, Howes Street Beach and Sea Street Beach. Dogs are allowed on these beaches from after Labor Day until Memorial Day and all dogs must be leashed while on any of these beaches. Falmouth Town Beaches, located off Route 28 in Falmouth, Massachusetts are overseen by the town of Falmouth, Massachusetts. This includes the Old Silver Beach, Surf Drive Beach and Menauhant Beach. Dogs are allowed on these beaches from October 2 until the last day of April and they must be leashed while on any of these beaches. Harwich Town Beach, located off of Route 28 in Harwich, Massachusetts is overseen by the town of Harwich, Massachusetts, as is Red River Beach. Dogs are welcome at these beaches only from the middle of October until the middle of May and they may be off leash as long as they are under voice control. Orleans Town Beaches, which includes Nauset and Skaket Beaches, are overseen by the town of Orleans, Massachusetts. Dogs are allowed on these beaches beginning after Columbus Day each year until the Friday right before Memorial Day and they may be off their leash as long as they are under voice control. Provincetown Town Beaches are located off of Route 6 in Provincetown, Massachusetts. These beaches welcome dogs all throughout the year as long as they are leashed with the exception of 6 am until 9 am when dogs are allowed off of their leashes. Sandwich Town Beaches which includes East Sandwich Beach and Town Neck Beach, are located off of Route 6a in Sandwich, Massachusetts and welcome dogs from the month of October until the month of April. Dogs on these beaches must be leashed at all times. For more information on these beaches, call 508-888-4361.

Truro Town Beaches, which includes Ballston Beach, Com Hill Beach, Fisher Beach, Great Hollow Beach, Head of the Meadow Beach, Longnook Beach and Ryder Beach, are located off of Route 6 in Truro, Massachusetts. All these beaches are overseen by the town of Truro and welcome dogs from 6 pm until 9 am during the summer months and all day following the Labor Day weekend until the third weekend in June. Cape Cod National Seashore, located off of Route 6 in Wellfleet, Massachusetts welcomes well-behaved, leashed dogs on all beaches unless they are marked otherwise. Dogs on leashes are also welcome on fire roads. For more information, call 508-349-3785 or go to www.nps.gov/caco/.

Wellfleet Town Beaches, which includes White Crest Beach, Cahoon Hollow Beach and Marconi Beach, are overseen by the town of Wellfleet, Massachusetts. During the summer months dogs are allowed on these beaches from 6pm until 9am the following morning, then after Labor Day and on to the end of June they are allowed on the beach at anytime of the day as long as they are leashed. Sandy Neck Beach, located at 425 Sandy Neck Road, West Barnstable, Massachusetts allows dogs on certain areas during certain times. Sandy Neck Beach has a public beach, an off-road beach and many trails as well as a primitive camping area. Dogs must be leashed at all times and are allowed on the off-road beach and on the trails year round. They are allowed on the public beach from September 16 until May 14.
