Doggie Drink: Free Verse Poem

J. Ellen Fedder
I have a Jack Russell terrier who considers the toilet her second water bowl. The family has tried to discourage her toilet-water drinking, but to no avail. So, I wrote this free-verse poem about her semi-funny, semi-annoying bathroom drinking activity.

Doggie Drink

I hate it when the doggie drinks
from the toilet bowl
standing on hind feet
paws across an oval seat.

I see her head buried low.
I hear the slurping, dripping, drool
as she laps and drinks
from the porcelain stool.

Seeing me, she shirks away
as if to say--
"Who me?
I am no thirsty fool."
