Doggies and Offices Don't Mix

The 15 Most Embarrassing Minutes of My Life

I have an adorable Maltese. He's only 6 pounds and I can carry him easily in a doggie pouch on my shoulder. So when I had to go I into work on my day off I decided to take him with me. After all, I was only going to be there a few minutes and he would be with me the entire time.

Frankly, he's gorgeous. The minute I walked in the receptionist screamed 'Oh my God, look what you have' and a room full of staff left their cubbies to see what I have arrived with. The oohing and aahing went on until my boss came out to see where everyone was. He was a little miffed and sent everyone back to work. I went on to my office. I had only come in to sign a few papers and expected to be leaving quickly but a call came in and I took it. Never do that when you are in the office on your day off. I took the pouch off my shoulder and placed the dog on the floor under my desk. The call took all of my attention and I didn't see him walk off.

It had been quite some time since he had staked his territory anywhere so I was stunned to hear my assistant say 'Mona, you better get out here' only to find her desk had been his first conquest. I apologized and wiped the mess.

I took him back to my office and in a flash he was out the door again. I hadn't thought he would be so curious but since he never really leaves the house I guess his new surroundings offered more stimulation then I had expected. But I didn't think his wandering around was a good idea and so I went after him. He always comes to me when I call but today was different. He has his own ideas of how to spend his time in the office. So I had to chase him. A client was about to open the door and so I yelled 'Don't come in'. That is not a good thing to say to a client. They stood outside until I passed. Luckily it was an understanding dog lover.

But I was pretty agitated by now and as I was picking him up I turned my ankle and fell on another employee who fell over a garbage can and pushed his computer off his desk as he went down. I was ok. He broke his arm. The dog kept on going. My assistant picked him up. He peed on her. He must have had more to drink yesterday then I realized.

It's a good thing that I'm very good at my job. I was sent home with only a warning- never bring that dog here again. Sometimes even good looks won't stop you from getting thrown out of uptown places.
