Dogs Deserve Better (DDB), which is publishing the piece written and illustrated by Rocky Shepheard, can't wait to tell the "delightfully poignant" tale of the love of a man for his canine and the lengths he and his pal will go to for each other and freedom.
"There are lots of fun characters to add camaraderie and humor to the plot and adventure that will keep you turning the pages," states a press release. "Of course, as with everything else Dogs Deserve Better does, our book has an important message for children that dogs are part of the family and they want to live inside with us."
So, how do you get involved? Well, all of the characters are being developed graphically except one - the protagonist, a dog named Worthless.
"DDB will be giving one of our supporter's dogs the chance to be drawn as Worthless, the star of the tale, who receives a miraculous transformation and a new name," the release says. "Just sponsor the book and indicate whether you want your dog to be eligible for the drawing or not."
Winners will be chosen on July 12th and it will be announced on the organization's site.
"The author/illustrator will either take photos in person of your precious pooch to use for the illustrations or let you know who kinds of shots he needs of your dog to fill in the drawings," according to a press kit. "And, a real-life photo of your dog and a paragraph or two about him or her will be added in the back of the book."
All illustrations in the book will be original art-work drawn in the rich colors of fall and winter.
"Sponsoring is easy," the press kit states.
Personal sponsorship is $20 and includes your name being listed in the back of the book as a sponsor of "A New Name for Worthless."
Personal sponsoring plus a book pre-order is $36 which includes a $3 discount. Your name will be listed same as above and you receive one of the first books hot off the press at a savings.
Half-page sponsorships are $300 and are designed by DDB. This sponsorship level gets you a full color logo or name listed on the back of the book as a sponsor and a full color ad at the back of the book to size specifications of seven by five.
