Do-It-Yourself Wedding Favors

When I got married, my wife to be and I decided to try to save some money. One of the areas that we were able to focus on was the wedding favors. By creating our own favors we were able to apply our own unique style to the wedding favors.

Before you decide to take on creating your own wedding favors, you need to give some consideration to the following points.

First, what do you want to say with your wedding favors? Do you have any unique characteristics that you may want to impart to the favors? You may want to tie them into a theme such as a mutual hobby or relate the wedding favors to a particular event such as when you both first met. If you are getting married during a holiday such as Christmas or Valentines day, you may want to incorporate the holiday into your wedding favors.

You also need to keep in mind the type of wedding reception you are having (formal, casual, outdoors, etc.).

Once you have settled on your message, the next step is to create a wedding favor that will convey that message. An example of a popular wedding favor during valentines day is a heart shaped box of candies. You want to ensure that the wedding favor is simple to make and assemble. It may only take you 5 minutes to put some candies into a heart shaped box and add a ribbon, but if you need to make 100 of them, then the total job will take you a full day to complete. So you definitely don't want to wait to the very last minute to start creating the wedding favors.

For my wedding, we chose to give small bottles of white wine. I created a label unique for my wedding on my computer and printed the labels out using my home printer. I then applied the labels to the bottles and added some fabric mesh with a ribbon for additional style. A nice thing about using small wine bottles was that we could create them far in advance of the wedding day (avoiding last minute stress).

So, if you want unique wedding favors, take some time to develop your idea and make your own. You can save some money while adding a personal touch that will personally thank your guests for being a part of your wedding day. Just be sure that you have the time to dedicate to this project.
