DOJ Files Suit Against Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Obama Steps Up His War Against Arizona

Tony Jingo
The Justice Department filed a lawsuit Thursday against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Phoenix alleges that the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) and the county of refusing to fully cooperate in a federal investigation into allegations that the sheriff and his deputies are guilty of racial discrimination.

Earlier in the month, a Mexican drug cartel put a million-dollar bounty on the sheriff's head; the death threat came in via a dumped cell phone from Mexico. Joe Arpaio is accustomed to death threats from the criminals and well adept at fighting the lawless, he earned the nick name "America's toughest sheriff."

Joe is waging another fight; sadly it's a fight against the Obama administration.

Sixty-days after Barack Obama took office he began harassing investigating Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Sheriff Arpaio's attorneys noted the political motivation behind the lawsuit, citing a news conference in March at which Attorney General Eric Holder was quoted as saying he expected the Justice inquiry to "produce results."

Asheesh Agarwal, one of the attorneys defending the Arizona sheriff said, "While we have no quarrel with the assistant U.S. attorneys handling the investigation, the attorney general's comments appear to violate federal regulations, departmental policy and state ethical rules designed to ensure the fairness of criminal investigations."

What should occur to even the casual observer is the lack of results produced by the Obama administration's 18-month racial discrimination witch hunt investigations of the Arizona sheriff.

Note the basis of the DOJ lawsuit against the sheriff is a 'lack of cooperation," the crux of the investigation (racial discrimination) has not yielded positive results.

In an official MCSO statement regarding the DOJ lawsuit, Sheriff Arpaio stated, "The Obama administration has filed three lawsuits against Arizona in the last few weeks; one against a college district, one against the state of Arizona and now one against my office. Each lawsuit centers on something to do with alleged racial discrimination."

Arpaio continued, "These actions make it abundantly clear that Arizona, including this Sheriff, is Washington's new whipping boy. Now it's time to take the gloves off."

The Justice Department claims, "The actions of the sheriff's office are unprecedented," in its lack of cooperation in the federal probe.

Joe Arpaio countered in his official statement, "These people in Washington met with my attorneys only a few days ago. And in that meeting, Washington got our cooperation; they admitted they already have thousands of pages of the requested documents; and they were given access to interview my staff and get into my jails."

The sheriff added, "They smiled in our faces and then stabbed us in the back with this lawsuit. The Obama administration intended to sue us all along, no matter what we did to try to avert it."

Again, what should be clear to the casual observer is the selective enforcement by Obama's Justice Department and how that enforcement is in sync with its ideology.

The Obama admin dropped the voter intimidation case against the New Black Panthers

The Obama administration filed suit against Arizona

The Obama admin filed a report with the U.N. for Human Rights complaining about AZ

The Obama admin has filed three subsequent lawsuits against Arizona

It should also be noted that when Obama filed suit against Arizona and Gov. Jan Brewer over SB 1070, there will be no gain from the suit because the ACLU and other so-called civil rights groups have already filed suit, the ruling they receive by the SCOTUS will cover the federal suit.

All Obama did was jump on the pile and start throwing blows against a weakened American state, the campaigner-in-chief is using taxpayer money to pander to a specific voting block and sate his desire to attack Arizona.

As the DOJ lawyers claim Sheriff Joe Arpaio's lack of cooperation with the feds is "unprecedented," it should not be lost on anyone that what is actually unprecedented is that a sitting U.S. president is waging a war against Arizona.

Hey man this article is one sided and wrong! What most of you supporters don't realize or know is that Arpaios' jail history is very sinister do some research before you go supporting a megalomaniac like Joe, if just one of you had to do time in his "re education" camp you would change your tune real fast! God Bless America!

"From what I understand, a county Sherriff is under no obligation to even allow Federal agents into their county"
Incorrect, Federal jurisdiction supersedes all other jurisdictions, read your Patriot Act.

Great report - Ditto John Mario's first comment.

    Excellent as always!

Arpaio's statement about being Obama'a whipping boy does not give credibility to any statement of his complying with federal laws. This is a serious issue. The allegations are very serious. I hope the state of Arizona and the Obama administration cooperate with each other. It would save us tax payers a considerable amount of money.

This time, you gave an excellent reference. If the state of Arizona could prove it complied with all the federal laws referenced in the lawsuit, then the Obama administration will not win.

    This keeps getting more complicated!!

It is so ironic. The lawless trying to bring suit in a system that is supposed to be about upholding the law.
