If you happen upon one that is not well cared for; I would not search for beauty finds in this establishment or shop in it at all. This is simply because you really don't know the route your product has traveled. Even if it is in good shape once you open the package; I feel it is not worth the risk. As far as $1 stores; there are $1 stores everywhere. They became popular under the idea that everything in the store is supposed to cost $1. But, many of them have changed and offer items that are simply reduced in price and everything costs somewhat close to $1; usually under $5.
There are some higher dollar items; but it is still considered a discount type of store. There are many beauty finds available in stores such as these. Many magazines warn you not to use cheap makeup or cheap beauty products; but I just simply feel that this doesn't apply to everything. I have eczema and very sensitive skin; so if all of these products are so bad; I would have had an extreme reaction long ago. Now of course everything shouldn't be bought and you're not going to find long wear lip color or very good foundation in these stores. You might luck up on a brand new shipment that's not too out of date. But, I would use caution.
But, for $1 or $2 many people are willing to chance it because they'd be saving anywhere from $6-$10 on their favorite item on closeout in one of these stores. But, generally the following purchases are just fine to purchase at a cheap store to jazz up your looks; dress up an outfit for a special occasion; or because they're just a waste of money to buy anywhere else and breaking the bank.:
-lip gloss and lipstick
-scarves
-head bands; barrettes and hair beads
-a perfume who's fragrance you like
-fake fingernails and toenails
-little wallets and pretty purses you can use to carry your id, money and a tampon when going out to a bar or club and don't want to carry a huge purse.
-tank tops to wear under clothes
-costume jewelry if you're not allergic

Post a CommentThis was a pretty nice article....but I would like to clear up one small thing. Products in our stores should not be sold if the code or date has passed. All products are brand new and are not close outs.
If you have purchased an out of date product it should be returned to any Dollar General location for a full refund.
Thank you for your business and your kind article.
