When my daughter was very young she had a pesky habit of removing the decorative border from her walls. At one point, my husband and I threw up our hands and gave up! We left her room with remnants of borders in hopes that she would outgrow this phase and we could re-decorate at a later date!
Lo and behold, that day finally arrived! When our daughter was 5 we felt that she had sincerely outgrown her pesky habit and agreed to invest some time and money into her room to bring in line with her visions of 'pink'!
Secretly, we both had some reservations about our rambunctious daughter as well as concerns with our soured economy. While wondering through our local Dollar Tree, I found the solution. Our location had rolls of border available for the wonderful price of $1 each. The only down side to the styles they had available was the size. The width of their borders is about ½ the size of normal border. Not one to be discouraged, I took a chance and purchased 8 rolls of an especially cute border with a bright pink background splashed with a variety of colorful hearts, starts, butterflies, flowers, and even a few crowns thrown in for good measure..
After arriving at home and discussing it my plan with my husband, we had our daughter's room prepped in practically no time at all, and were ready to start applying the new border strips. The first roll went up on the wall quickly. We then took the second roll and placed it parallel with the first, overlapping the two slightly by about ½ an inch. The finished project pleased not only our daughter, but her parents, too.
Shortly after we finished the new border in our daughter's room, I was shopping in our local Walmart store, and noticed a lovely bolt of pink princess fabric in the sewing section there. The fabric had a similar design to the wall border we had just installed so I purchased a few yards and made a simple curtain to complete the pink princess look in my daughters room.
This went over well. Our daughter is thrilled with her new Pink Princess room. Check out the picture and you'll see she is all smiles!
