Dollar Store Decorations for Fall

Karen Bishop
Decorating for fall doesn't have to be expensive. The state of the economy doesn't leave us with much money to indulge in decorating for the crisp days of fall. Here are my picks for dollar store decorations for fall and ideas for using them.

Dollar Store Decorations for Fall: Scarecrows

Scarecrows are a popular fall decoration. The dollar store has many types of scarecrow decorations to choose from.

Ideas for Fall Decorations: Garden stakes can be put outside in a garden, set beside the front door in a flower bed or a flower pot, or as part of a flower arrangement for your dining room table. If the stake part is too long, cut it down. There are wreaths to hang on your door. Other decorations with scarecrows on them are, miniature twig brooms to hang on the wall, scarecrows that stand up by themselves, and ones you can sit on the edge of the mantle.

Dollar store Decorations for Fall: Flowers

The dollar store has a wide selection of artificial flowers in fall colors. They are sold in small bunches as well as larger ones. There are bunches of leaves that can be used alone or by themselves.

Ideas for using Fall Decorations: Add flowers to table centerpieces, lay them on the mantle, or arrange them in a vase. They have garlands that you can use to decorate the stair banister, or arrange around a centerpiece. When I want to use a few leaves or one or two flowers, I cut the bunches apart.

Dollar Store Decorations for Fall: Harvest Foods

If you need some harvest foods for decoration, or to use in a craft project, you can find them at the dollar store. They carry ceramic pumpkins in various colors, poly-foam pumpkins, squash, Indian corn and gourds.

Ideas for Fall Decorations: While you are at the dollar store, look for wicker cornucopias. Put the harvest foods into it for a table centerpiece. I have two that hang on my wall filled with flowers of the season all year long.

Dollar Store Decorations for Fall: Coffee Mugs

Coffee mugs can hold more than just coffee. They can be turned into festive fall decorations for your home. Pick a mug that is a solid fall color, a mug decorated with fall leaves, or scarecrows, or a pumpkin mug.

Ideas for Fall Decorations: Put a piece of foam block in the bottom, grab a bunch of artificial flowers, and insert into the foam. You can set the mugs on shelves, on top of the entertainment center, or set a few in the middle of the dinner table. You could give them as gifts at a dinner party to spread the beauty of fall to other people's homes.

Dollar Store Decorations for Fall: Candles

Candles come in all shapes, sizes and colors. It's easy to find the right ones for decorating your home for fall.

Ideas for Fall Decorations: Use taper candles to accent a flower centerpiece for the table. Fill a medium or large bowl with water, add a few floating candles and fall leaves for an elegant decoration. Have a tray? Put different size candles on it and lay flowers, leaves and harvest foods around and in between the candles.

The dollar store is a treasure trove of goodies for decorating your home. I hope I've inspired you to take a look around the store and see what inspires you to do some decorating.

Nice ideas- My problems with dollar stores have been that the products seem mostly to be cheap imitations of other things which break awfully easily.

I am completely in denial about Fall, and that season after it which shall remain nameless, approaching. That being said, I can spend a whole lot more than a dollar at a good dollar store. Good ideas for decorations.
