Dollar Van Service a Dud

Dollar days are here again. But are they worth it?

The first day of the dollar van service offered by the Taxi and Limousine Commission seemed to be a dud for everyone involved.

Though the idea may have been a good one - a group ride service along the B71 bus route for just two bucks - it doesn't seem like its getting anyone anywhere. The B71 bus route was discontinued earlier this year.

Prospective passengers waited an upwards of 45 minutes for the white van from Brooklyn Van Lines to arrive. And even then there were only a handful of riders throughout the entire day. Twelve passengers a day doesn't seem like the business is going to work.

Dollar vans are also controversial as they aren't regulated by the MTA or the city. That means they aren't required to stick to any particular schedule or route.

The city isn't closing up shop quite yet. We'll have to wait and see how the van holds up.
