We decided on Thanksgiving dinner at Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about the quality of food and service. The facility holds about 1,000 people. I was eager to see how it was all handled. I was pleasantly surprised.
The place resembles a southern plantation house. It is huge, with big pillars that surround the entrance. Along side of the house is a horse stable. All the performing horses are on display there. As we walked in we also met some of the riders, preparing their horses for the show.
When we entered the building we went upstairs to a pre show event. We were served specialty drinks and popcorn, and enjoyed serval acts that included comedy, juggling and magic. Then it was time to enter the arena.
It was set up like a stadium. The performers were on the main floor. The people were seated in the stands. The set was gorgeous. It had a house on the actual stage, and a big area where the performances were to be held.
The dinner was quickly served starting with drinks, biscuits and creamy herb soup. Followed by a smoked Cornish hen, baked herb potatoes, lion of pork and corn on the cob. After dinner, an apple turnover was served for dessert.
The whole time we were eating, various acts performed. We were on the North side of the arena, and as soon as we sat down we were inspired to banter with the South side. There were seven horses, with riders on each side wearing either green or red to signify what side they were on. Our riders were in green. Throughout dinner they competed. There was also pig and ostrich racing. As well as an appearance from Santa Claus. My favorite act was a display of the nativity scene. An angel suspended in air came down from the ceiling to view the baby Jesus. While she was watching, a white dove flew up to her, and she caught it. It was amazing and absolutely beautiful.
It is a must see when in Branson, Missouri. However are also two other locations. There is one in Pigeon Forge Tennessee. As well as one in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.
I had a wonderful time at the Dixie Stampede. The food was exceptional, and so was the service. The entertainment was flawless. Guaranteed fun for kids of all ages, and well worth the $39.00 admission fee.
