Dolphins Fire GM Randy Mueller

Mike Spain
The Miami Dolphins hired Bill Parcells as the Executive Vice President of Football Operations to make changes. Today, the first change came when the Miami Dolphins fired General Manager Randy Mueller. The Miami Dolphins finished 1-15. Mueller was fired for three reasons. 1) The Dolphins were 1-15, 2) The Dolphins did not have depth and 3) The Dolphins are going to make changes.

The Dolphins record of 1-15 was not all Randy Mueller's fault. Bringing in Joey Porter and the drafting of receiver Ted Gin Jr and quarterback John Beck could be seen as smart football moves. The trade of receiver Chris Chambers probably was not the smartest move. 1-15 is a dismal record, causing coaches and general managers to get fired.

Injuries hurt the Dolphins as well. Randy Mueller was the GM for 3 years. Mueller only had control over player decisions when Coach Saben left last season. Maybe Mueller only had a year. However, in that year Randy Mueller failed to create a competitive football team. The Dolphins did not have the depth of players to fill the holes created by injuries. An example of this was when star running back Ronnie Brown was injured; no one came close to filling his cleats. Ricky Williams came back but was injured during his first game back. Injuries are bad breaks however a good GM has backups ready to fill those wholes.

The coaching staff, players, and the player personnel staff are not safe jobs when a team goes 1-15. The Miami Dolphins are going to go under a lot of changes between now and the start of the next NFL season. Randy Mueller was not the only Dolphins personnel who got the axe. Fox Sports is reporting "assistant director of player personnel Mike Baugh and college scouting coordinator Rick Thompson also departed."

The Miami Dolphins have no place but up to go. The Miami Dolphins will be hard pressed to be worse than 1-15 next year. Bill Parcells has a football mind; he knows what it takes for the Dolphins to be a winner in the NFL. Parcells will bring in like minded football people into the organization and try his best to make this once proud football organization proud again.

More changes will be coming involving the Miami Dolphins. More coaching and GM changes will occur across the league with teams that did not meet their goals for the 2007 NFL season.

I don't blame them. Geeze, they needed someone to take it out on.

I loved his comment to the press on the firing.
