Domestic Violence and Celebrities

Ms. Marie
Two and a Half Men star arrested on charges of alleged domestic violence. Charlie Sheen and his wife Brooke Mueller Sheen had a heated argument on Christmas morning that led to the police being called, and Charlie Sheen spending time in jail. According to the 911 call, that was later released, Brooke called and reported that Charlie had grabbed her by the neck, straddled her, and threatened her while holding a knife to her throat.

Interestingly, Brooke Sheen's BAC was above the legal limit, and Charlie Sheen's was very low. Keep in mind that this 911 call was early in the morning. Needless to say, Mr. Bad-boy Sheen has denied the allegations that he threatened Brooke with a knife, but did say they had argued and slapped one another.

This is serious because they are parents, and domestic violence amongst celebrities is getting out of hand.

What is it about holiday's and special occasions that cause these people to argue, fight, and become violent?

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren's incident was Thanksgiving. Although, legally this was considered a non domestic violence case. Chris Brown and Rhianna's blowout was during an event.

The media seems to key in first and foremost on how these incidents may affect a celebrity status, and any endorsements. Then they think about the violence, and any children that may be involved. This is crazy. Read, Why scandals don't faze Charlie Sheen's career by Jo Piazza CNN, and you be the judge. Then you have the comparison between Tiger Woods and Charlie Sheen, and why they are treated differently by the public, media, and endorsers.

Charlie Sheen is a "bad boy" so he can get away with it, on the other hand, Tiger Woods was a "good boy" so he will be punished. Charlie Sheen's alleged domestic violence isn't as shocking as Tiger Woods affairs therefore they are looked at and treated differently. Wow! Domestic violence is domestic violence why does the media stray away from what is important, both these men are parents.

Speaking of parents, what about the mothers, Charlie Sheen's wife parties in Aspen, by Cristina Gibson of Eonline.com reported that Brooke Sheen was out clubbing after attending a cocktail party at her mother's. Ah, did Charlie Sheen say his wife has a drinking problem, and was her BAC above the legal limit? It was mentioned that the twins were spotted Monday playing in a snow park while in the care of their nanny.

Then you have Elin Nordegren and rumors that she will go for full custody, and as far as reports, there have been none saying that those children have seen their father since the incident. Correct me if I'm wrong. One mother is out partying and the other planning her revenge.

And what about the dads, it's been reported that Tiger Woods is floating on a boat somewhere, and Charlie Sheen may have split for L.A.

No one seems to care about the cause of all this drama. Arguments that turned into domestic violence.

Chris Henry of the Cincinnatti Bengals' died from injuries suffered after falling out of a pick up truck his fiance, Loleini Tonga, was driving. Three children lost the father figure in their life, allegedly because of a domestic dispute police say, and if the mother is charged then how much more will those children suffer.

Why doesn't the media use their resources to bring more attention to the domestic violence and the children that are being affected? There have been so many reports on the Wood's divorce, estate, prenuptial, and the women that Tiger slept with that it is annoying. And now we hear the 911 call by Brooke Sheen over and over again. If she was threatened with a knife to her throat Charlie needs to face the music, bad boy or not, violence is wrong, the law is the law. But what about the children?

Statistics show that over 3 million children witness domestic violence in their homes each year, and those who see and hear domestic violence suffer physically and emotionally. Domestic violence and celebrities is so dangerously out of control, but it is easy to understand why the media focuses on the celeb rather than the issue of violence or the innocent children these celebrities are hurting. Gossip and ratings.

I also will like to add that I agree that the media is more concerned with gossip and ratings than the actual issue of domestic violence. It would be so nice if they would use their platform to bring awareness instead of trying to get ratings.

I'm glad you mentioned Charlie Sheen abusing his wife. Where's the outrage that people had when Chris Brown abused Rihanna? The media did talk a lot about Charlie Sheen, but where's the outrage?! People stopped buying Chris Brown's records. Will people stop watching Two & A Half Men? Probabably not...

I absolutely love your article by the way. Have you read mine? I wrote two about domestic violence: "Men, Domestic Violence, and Why They Do It?" and "Women and Domestic Violence: Why Women Go Back To Their Abusers".
