Dona Nobis Pacem

An Anti-war Poem

Anthony Andora
The sweet wine of youth consecrates the ground;
Brave men, fighting men, charged here without fear
And honoured their countries, forging this mound.
Heaven shan't forget, shedding many a tear.

A litany of praises, heard above
The unrestrained lamentations of all those
Who wept -for they lost sons; husbands; friends; love - ,
Failed to give each passing soul that arose

To Providence peace. "What victory, then,"
He asked, "Can come from the death of men?"
